Here are my 86 Tama Crestars. I've had them since new, and they've seen a few stages and the backs of a few vans. Here are a few different setups with them.

4 piece I was using for a bit with a Ludwig snare.

Here as an offset 5 piece with a Tama Artwood 5x14 maple snare.

Full 6 pc setup with the same snare.

Crestars or Granstars? I was unaware they made a line called Crestar.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Granstar does have a better ring to it. But then again, at this same time, Tama thought 11" toms would take off too!

Pro Drum in Hollywood seems to have a bunch of these 11" heads in stock. Still!

I would'nt hesitate to buy one if offered now. I mean think about it.. It's more like WE are the problem because we are thinking about numbers.. Is it just that we prefer EVEN numbers for some reason ?

but whos' to say a more ideal sound is'nt 9, 11, 13, 15, 17.. These would actually be JUST as relevant as any even sizes, IMO.

So wonderful to see all these great TAMA kits. I sold my SC maple to my ever lasting regret.

That I sold it to buy a Pearl is not a regret, it is a shame.

These days I am surrounded by TAMA and they never cease to impress. They're on a level with Sonor!!!!! Wow.

Yep. They always have been, but also surpass them in QC IMO.. easy.. Sonor just has that formula sound that is so satisfying..

Well as one who owns high end versions of each, I find no evidence to support your claim. Also, no high end Sonor drum is made in China. I should state I like Made in Japan high end TAMA. I won't vouch for Chinese made high end TAMA and do not plan on buying any.

Who's talking about China ?? I can't make a judgement call on those..although I would not doubt them for a minute. but my HiLIte was a pretty cool kit, but got it's asss handed to it very easily by my Japan Artstar Custom, quality wise... Everything about it.

Don't get me wrong.. I love Sonor to death.. but as far as quality,.. I would hand the LASTING edge and tolerences of metal pieces. etc.. to Tama, easy.

It was I who spoke of China.

I restate I love Japan made TAMA. Since moving production to China some standards have slipped. This goes to my mentioning China. It is relevant as such.

What is unclear is your evidence stating TAMA has better quality control. I find no evidence of this. I find the statement totally without merrit.

I do not wish to be argumentative and am not attempting to be. I simply find that comment unfounded in my experience.

No problem. and we are all drummer friends here.. so we must have good intention.. of course !!

Anyway.. I want to definitely point this toward drum kits.. and not based on snares. My experience with almost all of my German Sonor's were that when taken apart.. the lugs, brackets, etc.. were not up to the same level of qc as Tama. They were not as clean at the edges and the metal was not as perfectly smooth as the Tama pieces.. The drum shells, while the Sonor's were fine.. they were not as cleanly constructed with regard to plies and perfect edges as the Tama.. This., Yung.. was MY experience. Also.. keep in mind.. the newer generation like late Designer to SQ is metal parts by KHS. Go check Sonormuseum.

If you want to find individuals with issues on current SQ.. just go read on Sonormuseum and they are definitely there. Also with Designer issues to for build quality. Can you find me a number of Japan Starclassic Maple owners with significant problems ??

.

Wy.. little secret for you. Japan Starclassic is alive and well and if you want that .. you can have it. It's not going anywhere.

Although I have not seen any evidence of a bad China Starclassic.
