Vic Firth Drum Mutes help.

Hey guys, sorry to be a pain of a noob, but I bought a second hand pack of these on eGay and my bass drum mute was deformed because the guy wrapped them like a tool. Just wondering, when bought new, is the bass drum mute meant to just sit upon the drum? Or is some kind of clamp or something needed? What a pain! Ha.

There' should be a tiny velcro badge sticker, that's meant to be placed at the top of your bass drum head, near the hoop, so the mute kind of hangs.
You can buy a replacement in any hardware store.
I know this because I have a set of these mutes, but I never used them really, so I don't know how well it works.
