Call for "Call Me" Transcription

(Bermuda, nice work! That's you playing, right?)

On this song, it's pretty obvious that they overdubbed an additional hi-hat triplet part (it may even be a drum machine), so a transcription wouldn't really help you to play the song anyway. You've got to figure out how to play the groove and deliver those hi-hat lifts at the same time, and there's more than one way to do it:

1. Play a shuffle pattern on the hi-hat, and ignore the triplet hi-hat overdub part.

2. Play a two-handed triplet pattern on the hi-hat, leading with the right hand (the left hand will play the 2 and 4 on the snare).

3. Same as #3, but lead with the left. Transitions from groove to fill and back get trickier, but your right hand gets to play the snare backbeats.

4. Play a Purdie shuffle pattern.

5. Play only the 2nd and 3rd partials of each triplet with the right hand on the hi-hat. Quite challenging, and not very practical for the entire song.

6. Bring an extra hi-hat and stand, and have someone else play triplets while you bash away the rest of the groove as in #1.

That's the Blondie track with Clem Burke on drums, but thanks! :)
