I got this steel snare given to me the other day and will be restoring, erm...bringing it back to life and replacing all the hardware over the course of the next few months. I'm on a budget please understand.

I would take the whole thing apart and soak everything in a tub of "Evaporust". This stuff is amazing! I had some rusty parts on an old kit I restored, and soaked everything in Evaporust overnight and it came out completely rust free. Steel wool is good too, but with all the tight little corners on a drum, a soak works better in my opinion.

Is there somethng living in the snare throw-off? I can't wait to see the after. That looks like a tough project.

Haha you should leave it as it is. I remember OCDP selling a really expensive custom kit with hardware that deliberately had surface corrosion on it! When you've had this chemically dipped, it would be worth getting it rechromed professionally.
