Vinnie Colaiuta

Vinnie was NOT hangin out at the Ludwig booth at NAMM..and I was there a bunch...I don't think this is happening..although I would love for him for comin over! :)

Vinnie Colaiuta goes to PAISTE

There was some speculation following the video on YouTube of Vinnie getting upset at someone filming him playing "Seven Days" that he wasn't using Zildjians & that maybe they were the new Paiste 602s.
I've just heard from a drummer friend that Vinnie has indeed switched to Paiste!! Nothing on the website yet, but I haven't heard anything this big since, well, Vinnie left Yamaha!!

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta goes to PAISTE

Nothing on Paiste's face book or website making it "official".

Although this rumor is running rampant around the internet.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta goes to PAISTE

Yep, after a week of wild speculation, the Cymbalholic forum seems to be convinced the rumour has now become fact. It will be interesting to see if/when a Ludwig announcement is forthcoming now.

I'll make my bold prediction now: Paiste is going to expand its offerings of 602s by the next NAMM show.

I wonder if those new Giant Beat Thins will be seen flyin' from Vinnies new Ludwig stands? :)

Hey, it's one thing to jump ship to company X, but to go from b20 to b8 ... do you think he'd get that carried away? Hmmm. It'll be interesting to see. He does like him some bright cymbals now and then.

Once he hears the magic of those B8's, he'll be like a rat up a drain pipe to get his hands on some.

Although I think the more important question is: As we all know, the kit and cymbals maketh the drummers sound. Now that Vinnie has made the move to a Luddy/Paiste combo. Is he going to suddenly start sounding like Bonzo or early Ian Paice?

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta goes to PAISTE

If true I feel bad for whoever has to remove Vinnie's name from the Zildjian website. His name and pic is all over almost every mention of the A Customs as "developed by Vinnie Colaiuta."

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta goes to PAISTE

I didn't know about the Ludwig story!... tbh I have been really unimpressed with Vinnie's sound with Gretsch. He had such a great sound with Yamaha 9000 kits & Maple Customs, it was quite a radically different sound with Gretsch.

It's worth noting that the Gretsch sound from his recording kit that he used when he was actually still with Yamaha was fabulous - but very different from that of his "signature" set.

Not the best sound quality on the seven days vid but I'm not taken by the unmarked (Paiste?) cymbal sound either... Puzzling!

Ha ha! I was wondering that too! I'm anxious to see him stepping out with his new 26/14/16/18 config playing butt ends of 2Bs. Now that would be earth shaking!

Yeah, I thought of that as well! It's going to be a long process! IDK; does anyone remember the SOUL CAGES LIVE video with the mystery YAMAHAs which were merely Gretsch drums with a Yamaha bass drum head?

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta goes to PAISTE

Since when did he move to Ludwig? I know he suppposedly left Gretsch but I thought no official switch had been made... great to see another legend repping them Paistes though :)

Makes you wonder what's going on over there at Zildjian. Did he drop the Zildjian sticks too?

Every since Armand passed away in 2002, and Lemmy Demuzio stepped down, endorsers have been leaving, no longer feeling the same loyalty without the key people in place.

But given Vinnie did stick around for another 10 years, it does make one wonder what the final straw was.
