Show us your Four Piece Kits.

Been a while since I posted pics in this thread so I figured I would post my 3 Gretsch bop kits. All three are different, all three are identifiably Gretsch.

By the way, for anyone that may read this and care, I hear the New Classics are being discontinued. Only unofficial but seeing some of the steep discounts that some places are offering, I'm thinking there may be an element of truth to it.

Indeed we do! You have a real RB kit which I'll admire until the day I die.

The finish on your Brooklyn set is simply amazing. Your collection - I have no doubt - are relishing their new home.

My Noonan Stave Kit

Here is a pick of my stave kit, maple 22, 16, 13 as it was when I picked it up from Mr Gary Noonan (UK drum builder) it's - few years old now and has done numerous gigs and recordings. This is a fantastic sounding kit that has a massive dynamic range (unlike ply kits which tend to have just one or two sweet tune spots). Anyway these drums are great.

Not great. Quickly swapped them for coated vintage ambassadors on top and clear ambassadors on bottom. Made a world of difference.

yea the ones on the kit the dude bought sounded like bad. i guess it wasnt just those on that specific kit

Here are some pics of my 1978 Yamaha 9000 series kit (pre Recording Custom). Shells are 100% birch with a very warm vintage tone.

Kit in the last two pics is the setup I've been messing around with lately:
14x22 bass drum, 10x12 tom, 14x16 floor, 6x14 Pearl brass shell snare, 13" Matador timbale

Cymbals are all Paiste:
14" 2002 "Black Label" Sound Edge Hats, 18" Signature Full Crash, 6" 2002 Accent, 6" Sound Formula Splash, 10" Signature Splash, 20" Alpha Dry Ride, 18" PST5 China, 16" Twenty Prototype Thin China

Here are my "first kits" no name brand and brought them off in bad condition second hand, didn't cost much like R3700 equivalent to about $320. They came in as 1 package combo deal and so i decided to paint them up ~

Hey everybody, this is my first post on Drummerworld! Here is my Tama Silverstar in hairline black. Had it for a few months, and it's been a great kit. Possibly the best part is that I got the kit, a hi-hat stand, boom stand, regular cymbal stand, and cymbals (hats, crash, ride, broken splash) all for $400!! Such a deal. While the B8's are far from the best, they'll do for now, and I'm hoping to upgrade the cymbals soon enough.

These are from a tour this past summer. drums are Taye Studio Maple that I stripped and painted. It's 12,16,22 and a 14x7 snare that I really love. The cymbals are 14" New Beats, 18" A Custom and 21" Sweet Ride. Not my favorite cymbal setup but it worked well for this band.

Here's my current drum room just after Christmas:

In the back is my classic maple Ludwigs in blue/olive oyster: 9x13/16x16/14x24 with a 1978 6.5x14 Supraphonic and in the foreground are the new Breakbeats in white sparkle: 7x10/13x13/14x16 and 5x14 snare. I might get a 13" snare for the Breakbeats though.

Picked up the maples in November, and got the Breakbeats yesterday.

Now that I can see the picture more clearly -- that BD mount on the Breakbeats is massive! Looks way out of kilter on that small a drum. How's the sound?

I don't think the mount has any affect at all on that small of a drum. I get a nice thump out of it with the stock heads. I took the tom mount and tom off of it and gave it a tuning and the drum sounded the same with or without the tom mounted. I figure for a majority of things I'll use the kit for, I won't be using the tom mount anyway, and maybe just mount a cymbal there. But the entire kit behaves nicely - it was easy to get a nice sound out of it in minutes. The only thing I've done is replace the snare batter head with an ambassador coated. I might replace all the heads, but I think I want wood hoops on the bass drum since the bass drum riser has a bit of a hard time being in the channeled metal hoops.

But I did a test on getting the kit into my truck cab (Ford F-150 without the x-tra cab) and I can stack the bass drum and snare on the passenger seat, stick the other two toms behind me along with the hardware and cymbals. It fits!

I always felt like I was trying to play too fast with the extra tom. I'm not sure why. I seem to focus more on accuracy with just four.

Keep it simple, stupid.

For practice at home I use my Mapex M Birch in Black Forest Sapphire, in a 22/12/16 combo, along with a 14" BP "Panther" snare & Paiste RUDE cymbals (14 crash, 16 crash, 20 ride) with Alpha 14" hats.
