I sorta' like Abba.....during my audition they called out "Dancing Queen" and we dutifully played it.
I think everyone trying to work should be mindful of what hit songs are out there, because chances are, you'll get asked to play them. And if you can't, they'll just go to the next person who does, taking you out of the loop of possible gig-dom.
So for that reason I wouldn't be ashamed of what was on my iPod. I call it "defensive listening". Hell, I never thought I'd ever do a recording of the ol' Julie London/Dean Martin song, Sway. I'm glad I knew about it before asked to do work on it.
