Default Re: what is this piano song?!

I have a hard time with names of musicians, songs, albums, actors, acquaintances. I don't think some people are wired to know the liner notes of everything they hear without some training. Most of my favorite albums that I've listened to literally hundreds of times I couldn't tell the track list in complete. It's somewhere between trivia and really useful information for me. In terms of music enjoyment that stuff is trivial, in terms of communicating ideas to other musicians it's certainly detrimental.

My classical and jazz knowledge is terrible, but for the last couple years I've listened to them more than any other genre. Is it better to hear the feel and the sound and have no knowledge of the people or groups' variations? Or to build a network of resources to get there?

Breadth first search versus depth first imo.
