Default Re: Funk

James Brown is considered more R&B/Soul...Not really funk..Although he did say "Make it Funky" !

Funk would be more like 70's groups like Parliament, Funkadelic (they put out separate records), Ohio Players, Cameo, Earth, Wind, & Fire (Pop/Funk), Chic, Rufus w/Chaka Khan.

Straight up "pocket", no flash, just nasty grooves..

Get any CD with "The Very Best of" each group!

Here's a small sample list of classic Funk songs I give the my Classes at The Collective

Parliament: "Tear the Roof of the Sucker" (Give Up the Funk), Flashlight, Up for the Downstroke,
Funkadelic: "(Not Just) Knee Deep" this is my all time favorite.."One Nation Under a Groove",
Tom Browne: "Funkin' for Jamaica"
Chic: "Good Times"
Ohio Players: "Love Rolleroaster"
Cheryl Lynn: "Got to Be Real"
Brothers Johnson: "Get the Funk outta my Face"
Commodores: "Brickhouse"
The Meters: "Cissy Strut"
Slave: "Slide"
Jocelyn Brown: "Somebody Else's Guy"

Of course, there is NEWER stuff as well..SO maybe we can do that in another post

Better still, let's all try to add to it, and compile one big, nasty, FUNK LIST!

Remember..Funk Only...and James Brown is a given....even though it's Soul ;)
