Re: Over 40 Club
Just turned 50. Bent all my Mom's pots and pans out of shape when I was 9 years old. Moved on to playing on the bottom of cardboad icecream buckets with sticks made out of dowlings from old broken wooden chairs for my first "kit". Then got a department store cardboard headed kit then finally ended up playing my cousin's snare drum after that. Got my first "real" drumset from my Father when I was 13. Being playing professionally since I was 16 first in rock bands well I was in high school and very quickly getting 100 % hooked on all things related to jazz by an older local musical mentor at the time. Played my first professional jazz gig at 18 by trial and fire with much older players on the bandstand in front of an audience at a local pizza place in my old home town.
The rest is history and it's been an interesting journey with lots of twist and turns and I still love learning more about and playing acoustic jazz everyday. Like playing with the younger players on the scene who kick my butt and keep me young and fresh with thinking about new ideas and approaches all the time. Teaching and workshops are a very rewarding experience too for me.
