Default Re: Name some jazz quartets...guitar, sax, bass and drums?

For a really good example of that quartet line-up get some recordings of the LA 4. The original group was Ray Brown on bass, Laurindo Almeida guitar, Bud Shank on sax/flute, and Shelly Manne on drums. Later Jeff Hamilton replaced Shelly. There may have been some other personnel changes over the years but not on the records that I have. Even if you never listened to these guys to use as a reference you will hear some outstanding playing by some of the top musicians of their time. Primo stuff. They recorded prolifically on Concord and I suspect most of their recordings would still be available.
