Yeah, he is, in my opinion one of a handful of the most creative, most supportive and most funky (which in my book = best) drummers to ever pick up a pair of sticks.
The fact that he could play that out there and non-repetitive, but still have it support the song and soloist perfectly is amazing. His playing is so unusual that we mere mortals can only take his DIRECT influence very selectively. It's not that hard to play the patterns he plays (although it IS hard to figure them out), but making them feel right, and keeping them varied - and knowing when to vary them is another thing entirely.
