Joe has studied with some of the top artists in the country to include Carmine Appice, Kenwood Dennard, and his father, Joseph Nevolo, Sr. Joe has also studied at institutions such as the Long Island Drum Center and DCI where he also taught. His playing styles of progressive rock, jazz/rock fusion, hard rock/heavy metal have been influenced by a number of artists such as Buddy Rich, Billy Cobham and Tony Williams.

Over the last 15 years Joe has recorded and performed with numerous name bands such as Shadow Gallery, on their CD’s Tyranny, Legacy (Magna Carta) and most recent release in June 2005, Room V (inside Out). Pat Travers on his CD Blues Tracks (Shrapnel), and guitar extraordinaire Greg Howe and Howe II on their CD High Gear (Shrapnel). Joe has also made appearances on MTV with Greg Howe. Joe has toured the United States, Canada and Europe with Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Joe replaced Joe Franco in the Good Rats and played arenas and tri-state area clubs. Members of the band such as Bruce Kulick went on to play with Kiss and is currently playing with Grand Funk Railroad. Schuylar Deale went on to play with Billy Joel, and Michael Bolton.
Joe currently performs with an original blues project, B.B. and the Stingers, who has an independent European record deal.

Joe has been a featured artist in Modern Drummer. In 1996 he wrote an article entitled Power Samba which was published in Modern Drummer. Modern Drummer also did several stories on Joe. They did one when he was invited to travel to Latvia to play with the internationally known band, Riga and in May 2002 they did an article on his unique teaching system “Teaching Special Needs Children”

Over the years Joe has accrued a myriad of awards. He placed third for the Best Unsigned Drummer in the Country Award held at Thoroughbred Music in Clearwater, Florida. This contest was judged by Dave Weckl, Rod Morgenstein and Marvin Matty Smith. Joe was a semifinalist in the Neil Peart World Drum Contest judged by Neil Peart of Rush. He was also a top contender for the band Kiss.

As well as being a freelance studio musician, Joe is currently the educational director for his own multifaceted teaching facility, Big Beat Music Studio in Neptune City, New Jersey. The studio houses over 25 teachers and has over 350 students. At Big Beat Music Studio, Joe has implemented the use of high tech equipment and innovative instructional techniques including the use of a secret teaching system invention devoted to the promotion of quicker learning and higher levels of enjoyment in each lesson. Students have traveled from as far as Reading, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Connecticut to study with Joe. Several of Joe’s students have gone on to play with national acts. One of his students won the World’s Fastest Feet Competition and second place in the World’s Fastest Hand Competition in July 2005 at the International Drumming Contest (WFD.)
