Primarily, it was Gene Krupa, and Ringo. Via the radio in the '60s and '70s, I absorbed a lot of Hal Blaine, and the Motown drummers. On the more adventurous edge, I admired Tull's and Zappa's drummers. In my teens, I also listened carefully to a then-acquaintance, Dennis St John, who drummed for Neil Diamond, and had a sensible, solid apporoach to playing. He always had concert toms during his 10 years with Neil, and his tasty fills have stayed with me to this day.
