I just have a small square piece of medium-thick towel that I wrap around where the pedal clamps on he hoops. It wraps around the inside and outside of the hoop. You just hold it there and then clamp the pedal on over it. (Not going to pretend it was my idea....I read it here somewhere.)

Now the downside is that it's not like a permanent adhesive so you have to do it every time you set up/tear down. It can easily get lost, but I keep it in my bass drum bag and have another spare square in my "extra's". (Can you spare a square....Seinfeld reference...)
