Sometimes I need to put subtitles on with American movies, although that's a combo of the accent plus a trend towards "authenticity" (?) with gutteral mumbling replacing regular Homo Sapiens speech. Or maybe the actors can't speak properly, I don't know.
It's a losing battle, of course. American "English" is the closest thing we have to universal language in finance, science and computing. Bilingual people overseas learn US English because British spelling is too quirky and irregular. We are an anachronism.
