Re: Drummers who've inspired your playing
I'm a product of all I've deeply listened to and hence, studied... As a result I'm sure to forget someone but I actually tried to assemble a list.
Top of the house is My Dad - without his passion for the instrument, love for the music and an enormous record collection that filled a large room from floor to ceiling and every wall - absolutely none of this would of happened.
Steve Gadd tops the list of drummers after my Dad, then I move on.
Original New Orleans & Chicago Original Jazz (many also played big band as well)
Big Sid Catlett
Warren "Baby" Dodds
Who became famous for Big Band but also played Small Group
Papa Jo Jones
Traditional Mainstream Jazz (many also did/do Big Band)
Philly Joe Jones
More Modern Day Guys
Jeff Tain Watts
Joe La Barbera
All my own personal teachers
Many of the people that contribute here as well.
