Phil Collins is one of drumming's best kept secrets. He's way under-rated as a drummer in my opinion. Most people know him for his singing. I remember an article RS did on him a ways back and he was asked what part of his music he enjoyed the most. Without hesitation, he said "drumming".
He toured with his own jazz band until recently. He was diagnosed with "Sudden Deafness Syndrome" in one of his ears. It sidelined him for a little while but he released a DVD a little while ago entitled "The First Farewell Tour" with Chester Thompson backing him up. They, along with Luis Conte, were brilliant in the opening track .
If it's too loud, you are not necessarily too old, you just have not been playing drums long enough.
