That's brilliant. I tend not to see these problems so much in the UK but I can relate to the people. I've met some real tools that are just like this.
The best one was a guy I was actually in a band with. He played bass (supposedly) and I had been playing guitar for a few years (drums in the band). I picked up his bass having never played one before and was playing better than him at that point! The funny thing? He always went on about how great he was at bass. The reality was that he had a ridiculous distortion pedal that destroyed any sense of what he was actually playing.
I know a bass player like this, the playing part anyway. He would actually be a pretty good player if he didn't have use distortion cranked up to 10 all the time. He always has to be the loudest, as if the bass guitar is the most important part of every song.
