Re: Altered the Breakbeats!

Sounds like it might be a Yamaha Rydeen bass drum.

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Thanks for the follow-up taiko. I realize you used the FF for a jazz gig but given your experience with the kit so far, do you think the sizes are versatile enough to cover rock or other styles of...

Re: Your Holy Grail

I'm not necessarily trying to track one down because I know it would be way out of range for me, but I would consider a 1964 Ludwig Downbeat in Oyster Black Pearl to be the ultimate Holy Grail kit,...

Re: DW Frequent Flyer Kit

Thanks taiko for your detailed review. What are your impressions of the snare? In this price range snare drums included in shell packs are often disappointing. Are you planning to use the snare that...

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

I would double-check with GC before pulling the trigger on that $330 kit. I know it's advertised as a 5-piece kit but when you start seeing Box A and Box B showing up, it usually means that it's not...

Re: Finishes

You raise an interesting question because I feel the same way about signature snare drums. I've never liked the signature snare trend because as strange as it may seem, I feel that I am in some way...

Re: Ludwig Supralite - 13x6

One of the few criticisms of 13" snares is difficulty getting a decent "rim click" sound. What's your experience with the new 13x6 Supralite?

Re: Help with Ludwigs posted on CL

It's a wrapped kit so be sure to check the seams for any lifting and give each drum a careful once over to see if there are any signs of bubbling or lifting of the wrap from the shell.

Re: Yamaha Rock Tour - Question

I've seen generally good reviews of the Rock Tour Custom kits and don't think you can go wrong at that price. The only negative review I recall was from someone who said one the shells was...

Re: DW Design Series

In one of the NAMM videos it was mentioned that the street price on the 4-piece Frequent Flyer kit will be just under $1200.

Re: How does Ludwig Keep Prices down?

Bo, could you elaborate on your last statement about the DW's? Did you worry about them because of fears they would get nicked up or stolen, or were you worried they wouldn't hold up during a gig?...

Re: Considering a Yamaha Oak Custom set - Tell me everything you know...

Just as a reference, my local GC has the same kit on clearance for $999. Assuming your GC is comparable, they'd want you to come up with another $300 for the toms.

Re: Considering a Yamaha Oak Custom set - Tell me everything you know...

I'm curious what they would do if you responded with the following:

You tell them you can't afford to purchase the toms and that you're going to return the entire kit for a full refund. When they...

Re: Sonor SQ2 and Dale's Drumshop

There's a little write-up about your experience on Dale's Facebook page. It seems they enjoyed working with you as much as you enjoyed working with them.

Re: Ludwig 2014

I read on another site that the new Ludwig line is "Signet" (hence the "S" that Bermuda alluded to). From what I gather the drums are shipped unassembled to cut down on the cost to the user. I'm not...

Re: New Gretsch Catalina Club 2014 Finishes

I'm really interested to see the Vintage White Marine Pearl finish. Several drum manufacturers have started to offer this as an option but the finish varies from one to another. I'm curious if it's...

Re: Which aluminum drum?

It's not a high end drum but I think one of the new 6.5 Acrolites is one of the best options out there in aluminum snares. If you want to go a little higher in terms of the throw off mechanism, take...

Re: Did Ludwig do solid black drum hoops on WMP newer classic maples

Yes, I can't tell you exactly when, but I'd say probably 10 years ago the solid black bass drum hoops were standard on most (if not all) of Ludwig's wrapped finishes. I never liked the look,...

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats vs Sonor Safari

...while at the same time hi-hats and snare drums just seem to be getting larger. I just saw a DW video with a 16" snare. I never thought I'd see the day when a drummer's snare and hi-hats had a...

Re: Ludwig 2014

If this is true how could Ludwig not resist using the slogan "May the Schwartz be with you" in its marketing campaign?

I'm taking a wild guess that it's a Supra in a new size (13x6, 14x8).

Re: Gretsch renown 57 colour mix and match

Seafoam green is in fact different from the blue finish in the 57 Motor City line. Gretsch did a very limited run of kits in seafoam green so it's going to be much harder to find singles in that...

Re: Renown vs. Meridian: Worth the Extra $500?

That looks like a 20" bass drum on your Renown kit. How do you like it compared to a 22" bass drum? I've been looking into the Renowns but not quite sure which size is more versatile.
