Re: 8 Hour Practices

I would get so burnt out from playing that much I would feel like I'm getting worse. You need to have rest days from the drums, they are as important as the time you put in behind the kit.

Re: Rock Band as Beginner Independence Training

I personally think it's a waste of time. It's like Guitar Hero, if you want to play an instrument, pick up the real thing and do something constructive.

Re: RMV drums anyone?

Wow, I'm late to pop back in on this, I haven't been around this forum too much.

Thanks for all the kind words and I'm glad you guys like the sound of the drums. Let's just hope they begin...

Re: RMV drums anyone?

I love my RMVs! I wish they would continue their distribution here in North America, I'd love to get a 20" Bass drum!

Re: Dave Weckl

I feel the opposite. I find his solos tell a story and no matter how many times I listen to them I always here something new and musical. One of my favourite soloists.

Me too, Dave spawned...

Re: Don't understand latin drumset playing.

If you're new to it, I'd suggest picking up Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials. It will give you a nice taste of a few of the more popular latin rhythms as applied to the drumset. It sure helped me when...

Re: How much time does everybody practice?

The usual is 1.5 to 2.5 hours a day, and Fridays I usually don't practice. I never force myself to practice though. If I'm forcing myself to practice it takes the fun out of it for me, which is the...

Re: Pork Pie?

Woah, thats a sweet kit! I'm assuming your a big guy, because I'd have to be a gymnast to be able to spread my feet across those pedals!

Re: Mike Portnoy

I love the parts he makes for the songs, they fit perfectly, all the time! I'm not fond of his soloing at all though. But in his case, drumming for the song is the most important!

Re: Standard jazz ride pattern?

I always count it like this:

Caps numbers are where the ride cymbal hits are:

ONEtwothreeONEtwoTHREEONEtwothreeONEtwoTHREEONE

If that makes any sense at all.

Re: Favorite Custom Kit You've Seen.

I don't know if you would really consider Odery custom or not, but this is the NICEST kit I have ever seen:

Re: Tommy Lee

Ever watch a video or movie that makes you feel embarassed? Even though it has absolutely nothing to do with you?

This is one of those videos. I don't find much appeal in watching a man in a...

Re: Indepedence Exercises

Ostinatos are a great way to gain independence, and they are a blast to play!

Anyone looking to get into some serious independence stuff should check out Minnemann's book "Extreme Interdependence"

Re: 2 crashes, no ride?

Speaking of Thomas Lang and rides, he RARELY uses a ride. Its all dependent on the music you are playing and what it calls for.

Re: If you could cop the skills of any five drummers...

Marco Minnemann and Dave Weckl. I'm sure all that talent could keep me busy for quite some time!
