Re: Recommend Some Good Ash and/or Mahogany Kits

I actually have a friend with that kit. For $600 I feel like I could get a better quality kit, not saying they're poorly built. Just feel like I could find a better deal on a higher quality ash kit.

Re: Recommend Some Good Ash and/or Mahogany Kits

Yeah, I hear they're discontinued now. Prices will probably drop even lower in a month or two, especially in the used market.

Recommend Some Good Ash and/or Mahogany Kits

I'm currently looking for an ash or mahogany kit I can get in the used market. I'd like to keep it under $600 including shipping. I'm located in the US and below are some kits I'm looking into. If...

Re: Yamaha Rock Tour series discontinued... ):

That's a shame. I love these things. Pro all the way. At least it'll be cheap to snag a used kit in a few months. I wonder what they will produce in it's place.

Re: New Pork Pie Acrylic Snare coming my way...

I loved mine, it was by far my favorite snare. It's great with any type of tuning really, I used an Aquarian Studio Ring on it, but then again I use rings on all my drums.

Re: Guitar Center nightmare part 2

Yeah I get that. Some "experts" (haha) there aren't the best. I love Pearl ELX and EXR's and they just completely messed up three kits I looked into. They tried telling me this ELX kit had a wrapped...

Re: Guitar Center nightmare part 2

Not nearly as bad as the other guy. Just a hoop, the point remains the same though, they should tell of errors. If there was an issue like that and they were honest about it then I wouldn't have an...

Re: Another "WOW" Craigslist ad

Has the time to post the add then make an appointment and take time out of his day to have someone do it for him but doesn't have any time to clean it? Yeah, right.

Re: My 6yo daughter wants a drum set for Christmas

I LOVED my Ludwig Jr. kit when I was little. I'm 17 now and had them from 6 til I was 11. I even had an adult kit but still used my junior sometimes. It was a 4 piece, kick, 2 toms and snare and I...

Re: Portnoy Gets a Wee Bit Upset

It's honestly best for him to step away for a little while. He's a recovering alcoholic and it's not something that just goes away. Both my parents and my band mate's dad are and they are just not...

Re: Help Picking Drum Set

Have you looked at Pearl Exports? They made their 1,000,000 kit in 1995 and kept producing until a few years back. It is actually Pearl's most popular kit made and sold. Most they made are birch and...

Re: Portnoy Gets a Wee Bit Upset

+1, if he prepared like a professional. . . or ANY SORT OF PERFORMER in front of people he wouldn't have said issues. His skill level gives him no right to act in such ways with equipment that isn't...

Re: Portnoy Gets a Wee Bit Upset

It's not "hate for innovators" because I never really thought of any of the drummers you named as innovative. There's also a difference between cracking under pressure and just being unprepared....

Re: Dating band members

To me it's like "dating within the work place" I wouldn't do it but that's just me. But if things aren't good with the band there's no point in staying, it's like kicking a dead horse. No use in...

I play right handed but use a lefty double bass (still use my right foot for single). I shifted the kick over to the left as if it were in dual kick form. Then I put a remote hi hat in place of my...

Re: P.D.P. 6.5 x14 Ace $119 @ Best Buy

Re: Drum kit made from different types of wood

To go into more detail:
8" and 10" toms are 4 ply maple 2 ply inner birch for good attack and cut through.

12" 6 ply maple (only single wood in series).

13"+ toms are maple and mahogany...

I kept my 1st real (non junior) kit. Poplar Pearl Export Select Fusion in amber fade with black hardware. Over the past three years I went through birch/mahogany, mahogany, maple, and birch to...

Re: Where best to sell drums?

If they ask you how much you're looking to get out of it and you say whatever, they'll screw you. I ask for 50% of what they'd sell it for and I get that.

Re: Crush Kit, Can't Decide Color!

It's some old DW workers who made their own company. They are pro grade stuff (checked a few out a Guitar Center), I compared them to a Masters and Star Classic kit and they are up there grade wise...
