Re: 15 for 30 challenge!

First of all I'm impressed.

That's as extreme as me doing a 250 for 10 challange

I can see the benifets, mentally from doing this and learning not to rush, but I think a half hour of this might...

I could show you what I would write down.

Re: How do you count while playing drums?

My band writes some weird stuff here and there. like a one off measure in a different time. for stuff like that I usually need to count.

But for a cover, I'd listen to the song 20 times.. and play...

Re: Marco Minnemann

First heard of him in Necrophagist which i LOVED. but when he had a clinic with Rabb that was a very cool and eye opening experience for me.

the guy is not human!

Re: How do you count while olaying drums?

you mean in a different time? or changing the beat?

If you start playing more complex beats, (in 4/4) the counting doesn't change.. if its hard for you it's because it takes practice. I don't...

Re: Left Foot in the "Floating Double Bass" Technique

8th notes at 120 are going to be in the leg motion area.

It will feel very forced if your trying to do any ankle playing.

16th notes at 120 i to do a hybrid of leg ankle.

16th at 150 it...

Re: How do you count while olaying drums?

It's like anything

practice slow.. slow the beat down and count. Out loud even

once you get it speed it up

1,2,3,4
1, and, 2, and 3, and 4, and
1 e + a 2 e + a 3 e + a 4 e + a

Re: New Pearl masters MCX = Horrible!

I find this kinda weird.. My MCX are fine and sing when I tune em with new heads.

On that note.. I have found some really really really crappy budget drums and can usually get a half decent sound...

Re: Left Foot in the "Floating Double Bass" Technique

Not sure what you mean by "floating double bass"

are you referring to heel up playing?

there are tempo shifts where it goes from leg, to leg and ankle, to full ankle.

the best thing to...

Flying Fingers video lesson

I haven't made a video for a bit so here's a technique I have been asked about a lot lately.

Nothing crazy. Just a few pointers, and shots at different speeds to see the technique.

Once you...

Re: Why does my right hand get so fatigued?

I cramp up when I play live because of the adrenalin, and I exert way more energy than I do at a normal band jam.

If I don't play for some time too I lose strength and endurance.

How long have...

Re: Hi-Hat speed help.

Missing the spirit of the music is changing to 1/4 notes. Trust me.. don't do it.. it may burn.. and you have to dig down and push but you'll be happier when in a few years down the road and your...

Re: Hi-Hat speed help.

Also play in a Skate punk band.

playing in that 200-230 range on the hihat is a chore.

First,
I do molar, I like playing the 16ths but hearing a bit of an 1/8th note pulse in there. for...

Re: Can't seem to play fast

I agree, start with your springs backed off, using the head for rebound... then slowly add spring tension to complement that.

playing fast involves ankles too, not your entire leg. and...

Re: Head rebound on different size bass drums?

As someone who place a bunch of fast kick I'll give my input.

I started with a 24, then 22, and am now down to a 20. no matter the head having a tighter batter helps with rebound, to a point.....

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

I agree with most of that...I know OP doesn't want to be doing blazing fast kick. so don't even think about heel toe at lower speeds..

This isn't a great technique when you want power and...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

110-140 should be achievable no problem...

Everyone has a different setup.. I think starting at MAX or MIN tension isn't great... start in the middle.. practice for a while... make a SMALL...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

Its easy to achieve high speeds with llow spring tension. just need a tighter batter head.

pedal makes a large difference though.. demons are very fast

Re: Starting Back At The Basics Is Very Humbling

I couldn't agree more.

I have recorded on 6 CDS, have no problem playing blast beats at 220+bpm and very fast double kick etc. many over the top fills.

I have also been playing for about 17...

Re: New Click User

Two things to try.

if you know your songs well enough jam without the band to em, with the click... if not just play solo with a click.. for a LONNNNNG TIME.

playing with a click takes...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

also. THIS POST nails it..

the midrange is the hardest...

i can play slow.. and i can play fast,, 160-200 is the hardest range for me... once i hit 200-220bpm it gets easy on the ankles... then...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility
