Re: How long from complete beginner to gigging?

It depends on what you want to play. You could likely easily play standard 4/4 rock groove + basic fills within a year.

Re: Pearl Vision Birch Kits

I have played the first gen visions.

Many people say that the 2nd gen (the current visions) are not as good as the new Tama Silverstars. (comparable tech/price range). Apparently pearl had all...

Re: Roland TD-3, TD-3KW, TD-3S, What's the difference?

http://www.rolandus.com/products/legacylist.php?group=S-U

You can find the versions there.

Basically, the differences are in the snare (model) and if you have a CY-5 cymbal or a pad.

Re: AC/DC and...Wal-Mart?

Which is why I put "care" in quotes to begin with. In the states we sort of care, have OSHA, unions, ect. Companies didn't do that out of the kindness of their hearts.

But as you said, "maximize...

Re: AC/DC and...Wal-Mart?

That's my point. The Chinese govt doesnt care about "the people". It will be interesting to see if conditions improve over there from govt action for Chinese workers over time. Human rights isn't...

Re: AC/DC and...Wal-Mart?

Walmart is just an example of capitalism at its finest. "what's the bottom line?"

America is failing because of Americans, not Walmart.

We can't compete with China because America "cares"...

Re: Black friday madness- specific deals in mind?

Its the day where retailers typically go from "the red" (loosing money) to "the black" (positive income) for the year. They offer lots of sales to draw people out.

Re: Foot technic problem after practicing on electronic drums

Adcc,

Yes, I've had the exact same experience. I don't have a mesh kick drum on my e-kit, its the cheapo roland kick. There is ZERO rebound off of this thing. Even the rubber pad toms have some...

Re: Drums at college ... thoughts on electric kit?

If you are in an upstairs apartment the kick will make too much noise to those below you.

I'm sure the clacking of hitting things with sticks will be loud to your neighbors in general. The mesh...

Re: New member, random question.

It's probably going to cost you at least 1k for the wood for sound reduction. I haven't done it, so I can't say how much it will actually give you. The bass is going to be the biggest issue.

Re: Organized Program

I would say an essential thing for you to get is a metronome, a practice pad, and some sticks. You can do alot of work just with that for around $50. Look up rudiments (Vic firth website has good...

Re: All you guys with limited access to a kit

Well...I have a similar situation with outside factors.

I got a low end roland td3 e-kit for $400. Perfectly fine for practicing things like groove and time. It takes up maybe 3-4 square feet...i...

Re: Rush Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland DVD

I also really like R30. One of the things I REALLY like about Rush is doing the 3 hour shows. With the catalog of songs they have they can give a diverse show and add in some older more obscure...

Re: Rush Time Machine 2011: Live in Cleveland DVD

I think the skit was first on the snakes and arrows tour, and is on that DVD (it wasn't. I was wrong). It didn't autoplay on the TMT DVD.
