Re: Tower of Power

"Back To Oakland" began my abandonment of wanting to play rock. I heard it back around 1980 for the first time and it totally changed my direction of what kind of drummer I wanted to become.

Re: Newb question: Brooklyns or classic bops

For some goofy reason, I get quoted in this thread as being the person who said something negative about Maxwell's.......... I'm more than happy with Maxwell's since I have purchased most of my...

Re: Drum Solo's - disappointed

I'm not remotely good enough to post a solo of my own concoction. I do post solo pieces that I have worked out via a transcript. Within my posts there's always improvisation of time before and...

Re: Newb question: Brooklyns or classic bops

For the record, Tomer is the poster who made mention of Maxwell being a rip off. Not I.

Re: Newb question: Brooklyns or classic bops

Though I don't own Brooklyn's, I do own a New Classic and USA Custom bop set
Both are incredible instruments. I would not discount the classics because they are not made in the USA. Infact, I...

Re: Does your family understand?

Great statement Larry! On that point, yet in the opposite direction, my Dad let me discover the interest on my own. No pushing or directing me to it. It was by my own personal exploration and...

Re: Does your family understand?

My parents totally got it. I came from a musical Dad who was also a drummer. His whole life outside of the family revolved around jazz. That was the case up until his death.

My wife's family...

Re: Where are you? (when you log in)

Mostly I try to log in from my home office. 98% of the time that's between 6:00 am - 5:00 pm. I do occasionally check in and post limited after that on my Kindle Fire but when I do, I do so mostly as...

Re: Newbie Jazz Drummer practice routine help.

Hey there and welcome!

Many great jazz drummers & teachers here will chime in I'm sure. All with valid ideas and approaches.

First off, I'll say studying classical percussion in the 1980's at...

Re: Connie Kay

I’ve listened a bunch to MJQ but to be honest, a little too clean for my taste. All magnificent players though.

His stuff with Pres is what I like most.

Not sure if I recall this one...

Re: Drum finishes - a natural debate

I haven't owned a wrapped drum since about 1985. I love the look of natural wood on an instrument.
