Re: Amplified Bass drum sound problem.

Would you recommend a non ported resonant head with the mic outside, in front of the reso.(with tuning adjusted for best acoustic /non amplified sound?

Re: Amplified Bass drum sound problem.

Thanks to you both. Sorry! I got the mic detail wrong; it is a Sennheiser 602 which is a bass drum mic.
I'm using Evans EQ3 resonant(ported) and EQ4 batter. The sound I'm hearing is from the bass...

Amplified Bass drum sound problem.

I use a Sennheiser 402 to mic my 22x16 Tama Starclassic birch. To minimize boominess, the drum is tensioned so much down that, played acoustically, would sound flat and lifeless. Even so, I'm still...

Re: Mid/high level kits.

Agreed, it's a broad question and thanks for the response. Where does a Tama Starclassic birch kit belong?

Mid/high level kits.

Which kits are considered mid level, which are considered high level? Not only in terms of price but, as important, in terms of sound.
Players' opinions, please.

What price Starclassic birch and Gibraltar rack

This is a question for UK drummers.
Does anyone have an idea of the asking price for Starclassic birch drums; 10x8,12x9,
14x11, 16x14 rack toms and 22x16 bass drum with twin omniball tom post....

Re: Chad Smith Snare or Acrolite

Thanks. The drum already has a power center reverse dot and an ambassador snare head. A Puresound upgrade is worth a try, which do you recommend, steel or brass, blaster or custom?

Re: amplifying bass drum from backline.

Thanks for replies. I should have said that I do use a mixer but I take your points about gear being up to the task. Anything bigger would not find room in my transport so 'use and abuse is my only...

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

For a (mainly) covers band, what works best is when all members do their homework so at rehearsal, it should just be about gelling together and agreeing to any changes to the original arrangement....

amplifying bass drum from backline.

As my band doesn't use bass bins(subs), I've been micing the bass drum (with Sennheiser E402) through an Alto TS Sub 15(600 watts, 1200 peak.)
On New Year's Eve , after 21 months from new, the...

3/4.6/8

I hear a lot of songs with a 3 feel and often wonder about the original time signatures, 3/4 or 6/8? I'd appreciate some examples of both.

Tama Starclassic birch tom tuning.

Using G2 coated/G1 resos, I usually have the resos slightly higher. Has anyone found a better result with a much larger pitch difference? (10,12,14,16 accel sizes).

Re: Upgrading from Tama timbalitos

Good point about the sizes. There's nothing I don't like about them but sometimes feel they could be a bit more cutting with a little more volume. I'm using ambassadors.
