Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

Here are some pics of a Recording Standard kit with white wrap. This is on eBay right now, and the seller has it correctly listed as Recording Standard. You can see the natural hoops on the kick and...

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

The thing is, at the time (early 80's) Yamaha made a big marketing push, and it worked. Most of the big fusion/jazz/soul/funk guys, who were some of the most respected drummers, were endorsing...

Re: Yamaha Tour Custom

This is basically the correct answer to the 'custom' designation. But, even the Recording Series was offered in wrapped shells, way back when when they initially were sold. When the Stage Series,...

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom value

I agree that, if selling them is your goal, then just give it a shot. eBay is your best bet, because of the number of members. You can also advertise it on here, in the appropriate area -...

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom value

I had a set of these back in the 80's. I bought them used from a guy in Philly. I ended up with 13, 14, 16, 22. I wanted a 10 and 12 to match. I knew the Yamaha sales rep at the time, and he ok'd a...

Re: Bearing edge of snare drum curving inwards

Think of it this way: you are extending its life if you retire it now. Considering the fact that you think this happened recently (over a short period of time) continuing its use, will risk further...

Re: Yet another Mapex Saturn vs X thread

You've made this a little confusing, because you are running 2 threads on essentially the same topic, and you have pics of the BLX in the other thread. Its always best to stick to one thread :).

Re: Bearing edge of snare drum curving inwards

It looks to me like there are some horizontal cracks in the finish, which seemingly would correspond to inward movement of the top of the shell. So, it seems like there has been change.

If this...

Re: Ludwig Copper Phonic

I have the older Yamaha seamless copper SD-6105 5.5" and have a 5" bronze Supra (smooth shell). They are both great drums. My experience is that the copper likes to sit in a fat medium tuning, and...

Re: Dry heads for ludwig blackrolite acrolite snare?

My favorite combination for this genre is a Remo Coated Controlled Sound head with Reverse Dot and a piece of Moongel. This works well on just about any snare. It will give you a nice crisp sound...

Re: Yamaha Recording Customs - Help!!

Great score!

One piece of advice: be careful when removing the lugs. Each end of each lug has a small metal retaining clip inside the lug that keeps the lug nut in place. They tend to fall out of...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

I have a Yamaha Mellow Yellow Tour Custom kit. It has nothing to do with Tony or Elvin, but everything to do with Peter. He did play a yellow Recording Custom Kit back in the 80's. I remember...

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

Cascio Interstate is running a 17% off sale. It looks like it would work with the A Zildjian cymbal pack. Their price is a little higher, $699. After the 17% off its $580. Really not a bad deal for 3...

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

I forgot about that Renown Deal. That is a GREAT price. I would totally buy that over the other kits you are looking at. If you got that kit plus the Zildjian A pack, you'd be at $1540, and you may...

Re: Recording Custom 14 x 8 Snare Drum

That's a good price. The 8" usually sells for about $400US.

Re: Yamaha Studio Custom Drums

Trying to figure out what the OP was looking at is impossible without some pictures. There's no point in even speculating about it. It could literally be anything. As far as the older Yamahas, the...

Re: New York Pro snare drum

I agree. The parts alone are worth $125. This could be some short lived drum maker wanna be. Never heard of New York Pro. It could be a Keller Maple shell, who knows? The build looks decent enough.

Re: Need Help with New Kit - From the Ground Up

I don't really like going to Guitar Center either. Guitar Center/Musicians Friend/Music 123/Woodwind and Brass are all the same company. I have ordered from these places online, with good results....

Lacquer. Looks nice from the pics. What's the asking price, if you don't mind saying?

Re: Recording Custom 14 x 8 Snare Drum

That drum was 100% part of the RC line, although Yamaha stopped making the RC snares long ago. They continued on with the toms and kick drums. The wood shelled snares were offered in 5, 6.5, 7 and 8"...

Re: Piece by piece more expensive?

They are able to offer kits in this price range by intentionally limiting the sizes and options. Offering more sizes and options makes things more expensive for the manufacturer. They are in business...

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

Merry early Christmas to me. I asked the wife not to buy me any sweatshirts, t-shirts, pajamas, warm-ups, CD's, DVD's; you know - the kind of stuff I usually get. I told her I'd pick out something...

Re: 1960's Ludwig 12" tom conversion question.

Physically, I think it should work. So, you are going to use the existing holes and drill another hole per lug to accomodate the lugs that each have 2 bolts, correct? You are going to replace the 6...
