Re: Drum Solo's - disappointed

Travis Barker plays his solos up-side-down. Maybe that's what you're missing?

Re: Have you ever gigged or practiced without a bass player?

I've met a lot of guitar players who think they are great bassists because, hey it's the same thing, only bigger and less complex, right? But that's the problem, even when they try not to, they end...

Re: How far are you willing to travel for practice

Buddy, you should try being me some time. It's really difficult to remain this sublimely perfect, and this amazingly, stunningly humble at the same time.

Challenge accepted.

Re: How far are you willing to travel for practice

The distance I will travel is directly proportional to the skill of the musicians I'm going to practice with.

Re: 2 gigs in one night...my first time out...am I crazy??????

Not for me. I hate it. I usually get amped up to play out, and typically like to put that energy as a whole into the show. Loading in and out, twice, driving to two different venues, having to...

Re: Decisions decisions!

I changed my mind... Still buy the sponge bob kit, but put "mapex saturn" badges on it, and face the badges towards your left and right like googly eyes.

You'll be the envy of every other drummer...

Re: Yes, beginner drummers---reading music is crucial --- and it is not that hard to learn...

This is not something we should say yes or no to. Young children can easily learn to read drum music. At a very minimum you should at least get to a level where you can work out what you're looking...

Re: Decisions decisions!

Just get one of those spongebob kits and put guru logos all over it. Much easier.

Re: Meshuggah - now my drumming seems trivial :(

Your drumming probably is "trivial". So what? If you and others like the way it sounds, do it. If you suck, practice till you don't. Play music or don't. Worrying about other drummers ability...

Re: tough not to be proud ....

Quite refreshing to not have some idiot trying to be cool for the first 2 minutes of the video. We see nothing but the drums and hands.

Re: When learning songs, do you actually memorize the number of bars in each part, or do you go by f

I tend to hum or sing along. If I don't know the song well, I try to feel it out and watch the other musicians for body language.

Only time I count anything is if I'm learning something. I'll...

Re: Drumming someone to sleep :-)

You're close enough to your "buddy" that you can give him massages until he falls asleep, and somehow this wouldn't translate to a future "wife"? Why is this related to drumming someone to sleep...

Re: Ergonomics and positioning around the drum set

From the angles I can see here, it looks basically fine to me. I've played worse "house" kits before.

Only thing I'd change here is that all the parts look a bit far apart to me. I'd tighten in...

Not only is the original post awesome, clicking your link led me to one of your subscriptions: GoAndPractice. Hairy Canaries, can that guy play. Even in a tutorial video, he can bend time and...

Re: Drummer Boo boos :)

I'm looking at a welt on my right knee right now. Apparently, my knee is not a floor tom. That's what I get for playing with only 3 hours sleep in like two days.

Re: Using your fingers in single stroke drum rolls

At a point in speed, I switch to using my fingers more... I think most people probably do. You don't want un-intended doubles, though, they will sound different most likely.

Re: Warning!!! ...sexy drumming :)

I dug that! Thanks! Good edit, too... I couldn't really tell where you looped things unless I compare to the other one.

Re: Do you color coordinate your clothes to your kit at concerts?

Re: Are we too hard on people around here?

I still think that unless the offense is intended and aimed at you, you should be able to deal with it on your own instead of getting all huffy. And I leave a related quote:

"If we can't laugh at...

Re: Are we too hard on people around here?

By "grow up" I suppose you mean I should waste my time being offended by dumb stuff that has nothing to do with me? That would help me somehow? I'm not the one who goes getting all huffy like a...
