Re: Did you have middle.back ache when you first started playing?

Just a little update:

I took many of your suggestions and the muscle ache has subsided pretty dramatically.

I set back my hi-hat for a more equal distance from each limb, sitting more...

Re: Importance of Drum Techniques & Posture

I believe posture is the reason for my middle back discomfort I talked about in another thread. I keep catching myself slouching and need to make a conscious effort to sit up straight and not tense...

Re: When did you know drums were "it" for you? When did they become your passion?

Great, great stories everyone. Thanks for sharing.

Myself, I was stuck taking piano lessons and my parents always kind of shrugged it off when I talked about wanting drums. But I was always most...

Re: Did you have middle.back ache when you first started playing?

Yeah, that throne surprisingly arrived with the kit, which really I don't think it was supposed to, along with a kick drum pedal, so I didn't go looking for one. Perhaps it's time to scour...

When did you know drums were "it" for you? When did they become your passion?

I'm sincerely interested in knowing. Was it after the first lesson or week? 1 month - 6 months -a year?

Re: Did you have middle.back ache when you first started playing?

I'll move things around, thanks.

Seems to be a right side issue (the muscle on the right side if my backbone). I had this happen when playing a heavy guitar like a Les Paul. I'm also wondering...

Re: Did you have middle.back ache when you first started playing?

Thanks for the input everyone.

Come to think of it, when I sit on a bench or something without a back rest I get uncomfortable quickly. Maybe I do need a throne with a back rest. I'll try my...

Did you have middle back ache when you first started playing?

The middle of my back starts to ache pretty quickly after I start playing. Not my lower back or shoulders but the middle. I'm pretty conscious of my posture so I don't think its that. Is this...

Re: What do you think of this deal on Ludwig Classic Maples?

Sweet!

Sellers really limit their market for buyers when they won't ship.

Re: DRUM INSTRUCTION DVD & BOOK REVIEWS

I actually just ordered this through Amazon (for $50 off) based on the lesson book that is available online here http://www.learnandmaster.com/drums/resources/

From perusing through the lesson...

Re: Your thoughts on gear progression starting from beginner level

Ya know, I was actually going to give drums a go a couple of years ago and at that time bought 2 books that I completely forgot about - Stick Control and Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer -...

Re: Your thoughts on gear progression starting from beginner level

Thanks for all the thoughtful input everyone and helping me sort this all out.

As far as rudiments, just from my experience with electric guitar I've found that I have no problem setting aside...

Re: Your thoughts on gear progression starting from beginner level

Good to have someone I know at the new place!

Yeah, I think I need a kit or would get bored. Kind of like having an electric guitar and no amp - takes all the fun away.

I'm having an internal...

Re: Your thoughts on gear progression starting from beginner level

I appreciate all the input, everyone!

A guy in town has a Tama Rock Star kit with cymbals for $300 OBO. Been for sale for a few weeks so I think I can get it for less. I think I'll try to snag it...

Re: Your thoughts on gear progression starting from beginner level

Yeah, maybe I was subconsciously wanting some affirmation that it's ok to get a kit right away - I have Tommy Igoe's Getting Started on Drums and Essential Grooves DVD's on the way LOL.

Enjoyment...

Re: Your thoughts on gear progression starting from beginner level

Interesting. I could see the value in Harry's approach at a young age of just using a practice pad to concentrate on your hands without distractions.

I also see the value in Tracer saying to...

Your thoughts on using a practice pad only starting from the beginner level

Hi everyone.

At age 50 I've decided to drop guitar playing, which was a hobby for the last 7 years, and learn drums, which I've wanted to play since childhood.

Would like to get some input on...
