Re: Jeff "Tain" Watts

I'm big on his album "Watts." It's just so bouncy and fun, I don't know how you couldn't love it.

Re: Eric Harland

Where is the love for this man?

I went up to New York from Philadelphia in April last year just to see his group. Saw him three nights in a row, best shows I've ever seen. His senses of rhythm...

Question Regarding Tingling in Arm

Often when I play with traditional grip with marching sticks on a pad for at least 10 minutes at a time, when I retract my left arm, I get a tingling in my forearm down the side below my index finger...

Problem With Marching Snare Sticks

It seems like, no matter which particular stick, if it's made for marching snare, it will slip as I play, unless I hold it tightly to the point that it tires out the area that encompasses my index...

Re: Your Favorite Youtube Drummer

I was astonished to find by a quick check of Ctrl+F that nobody seems to have mentioned Banished Beyond! However, I'll have to say that mine is this guy, "dbrddr." He's of DCI level, but says that,...

Help with improving jazz vocabulary?

Some days, I feel like I'm tired of practicing after only a little bit (maybe 40min, or so) because I realize that I'm just playing the same crap over and over. I get frustrated because no matter how...

Re: Point of diminishing return when playing hard

I never realized that this could be a topic that would produce this much discussion. However, this could be because I play timpani, among other concert percussion, more regularly than drum kit. You...

Re: Single Strokes Around The Drums

Jazz Drummer Attempting to Get Marching Snare Technique Down

So, this upcoming marching season, our percussion director is allegedly saying that he's going to try making our snare line play traditional. I haven't yet been on the snare line, since, this past...

Many Rock Drum Solos Just Don't Appeal to Me

I don't get a lot of them. Too many are just a lot of flash, the sheen of which I can't even discern. I mean, when you get those ones that are mostly a lot of really deep tom and bass, all I hear is...

Re: Roy Haynes

This thread is far too dusty. :o
I think, if I had to choose, I'd probably say that Roy is my second favorite. I have Like Minds and plan on getting We Three. I downloaded "Sneakin' Around" at some...

Re: Joe Morello

Thanks for that, I'll check it out.

If I may get back to the man himself, I found this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbUklDXdH2o) a while back, and, since then, he's been my biggest...

Re: Joe Morello
