the paradiddle thing is a good idea actually haha. WHen i play higher tempos i play a lot quieter and less. Theres so much sound coming from the ride that i dont want the comping too take away from...

The thing is I do bring the dynamics down.. its just the "intensity" is not there.

its tough when your nervous its hard to play.. thats why you reverse it.
Instead say, "I'm going to show off in my solo and show how great I am" etc etc etc.

I'm the same boat but jazz is really all about feel and dynamics like others have said.
Think of it this way. You learned rock by copying some drum beats from rock tracks. Do the same for jazz. ...

Yeah 10 and 18 is lots of separation.. i like. I hate toms that have close to the same sizes like a 12 and a 13 for example. It just doesn't work for me.

Yeah sometimes to me the 12 doesn't cut it and I LOVE that funky sound you get from the 10 inch tom.. but i love the boom of the 16!

Bass Drum Elevation

Is there a need to elevate the bass drum because I want my bass drum more flat to the ground (not touching the ground but you get the point). Will this damage the drum or change its sound?
