Re: Ideal 2 Floor Tom Sizes?

I've got a 14 x 14 and 16 x 16 with 10 & 12 racks. I like my 14. It tunes pretty low. They are high quality drums though. I don't how much difference that makes. It's the only 14 Fl. tom I've owned....

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Thanks Geedee. I don't know how old it is, but I think I like it after having it a Wk. or so. It does have a slight wave in the edge of it, bent or warped. I don't think it will effect it in any way....

Re: As if THAT ever happens...

That is so cool. The owner must think that you guys are a really good band. That's great testimony of the quality of your band. In the 80's I was in a Christian rock band, playing originals. We were...

Re: Painting a bass drum reso head?

I painted this on the inside on a clear head. I cut out stencils from paper and spray painted it. then I sprayed blue and white over it. This was around 1997. I used it for at least 8yr. It's got a...

Re: Hi Hat Heel

I've always played heel up on the hats. I think most people play heel down though. Over the last few yr. I've been trying to play heel down in quiet settings. I seems like heel up doesn't work as...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Yess Pics soon please. I've got clear super 2's over ambassadors on my BCAN rack toms. and performance 2's on the fl. toms, but the 14" has a super 2 on the reso (that toned down the excessive ring...

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

In the 80's I bought a Ludwig SL series kit. 4 thick plies of poplar, with rounded bearing edges. They were really good sounding drums. The only reason I traded up was so I could get power sizes...

Re: When you go to a drum store...

Nice. It sure looks like it could be a work horse. I'm glad for you. Most of us don't get to add things like that very often, so it's a big deal, I'm sure. Congrats.

Re: Thoughts on super fast foot speed

I think the "well rounded" statement meant that they can play lots of other styles of music. Not that metal drumming itself is well rounded. Metal is metal, so it's gonna sound that way. The drummers...

Re: Ian Paice rocks!!!

I grew up on Deep Purple. They are playing at a casino near me soon. I didn't think he was with them now. I better check it out. He is truly one of the greats. I bet that I was about 13 when I bought...

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

Re: The ubiquity of smaller kits

That's how I feel. 4 pc. does look really good, but when I set down at one I feel like somethings missing. I usually use 6 at home 2 up and 2 down. 10 12 14 &16 I drop the 16 when I play out.

Re: New Guru!

That drum looks huge. Must be the angle. I like the chrome hoops. I played a rosewood in the studio in the 80's. It sure sounded good on tape. Congrats.

Re: Steel Snares???

Mine is from 87 or 88 I paid 40 for it off Craig's list. It's kind of rough looking, but I like it. It matches my Tour Custom kit from 88 too.

Re: Steel Snares???

I've got an old Yamaha 6 1/2 X 14 steel snare, with Evans HD coated (not dry) and one Moon Gel. I like it. Lots of crack.

Re: Toning down a ride cymbal

I only have 2 rides, one is an old Zildjian and I have several pieces of masking tape under it. That gives it a little more stick definition, and tones the wash down a bit. I have seen videos with...

Re: Yamaha Drums

That looks like a nice kit. Yamaha makes good drums, even from the 80's. Ha Ha. I've been wanting one of those Musashi 13" snares. Congrats on your new kit. They are really good drums.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Very nice kit. I like black drums, I have some old Tour Customs they still look sweet. Great find. Also you really did need a 16 X 22 .

Re: replacing absolute birch with performer b/b.. Bad idea?

I've got some BACN drums. While they are great drums, I'm real fond of the BB's also. I think they are good drums, no matter where they were made. If you like them, that's all that matters. It's not...
