Re: Some thoughts on keeping time

There's a time and a place for everything.

When I play "Satisfaction" I stick to the straight quarter notes on the snare and bass with eighths on the hi-hat. The only fills are the...

Re: Tama S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch 14x7

I'm sure that the SLP is a great drum. Tama has a great reputation for quality. It sounds good in the youtube videos. GC has it on their web site but I couldn't find a store near me that had one in...

Re: Tama S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch 14x7

That was on my short list when I was in the market for a new snare drum back in February. I ended up getting the Pork Pie Cherry Pie cherry/bubinga 14x7. Couldn't be happier.

To the OP. Post some potos so that we can see what you're talking about.

Re: Tips on Selling a Drumset?

My two cents: You don't need a professional photographer to get professional-looking shots.

Take some time to clean up your set. Wipe off the dust, polish the chrome, and get everything looking...

Re: Sensitive drummer?

Thanks for all the replies. I took it as a huge compliment. I usually joke to people that I'm a drummer, but my goal is to be a musician. Today I feel more like a musician. I feel like the second guy...

Sensitive drummer?

My surf band played at a birthday party this past weekend. The guitarist in the band and two of his friends were turning 64 within a two-week period. After we played a group of people who play at a...

Re: What's with the Stage Custom snare?

I think it's my kit you're referring to. I have the matching birch snare and it sounds good. I recently put an Aquarian Texture Coated head on it. The Pork Pie is my new baby, though. I really fell...

Re: Pork Pie 7x13 Cherry/Bubinga Snare Drum

I have the 7x14 model that I used for two gigs yesterday. First was an unmicd outdoor gig and the second was a micd indoor gig. Both times I got unsolicited comments about how great the snare drum...

Re: What are your stories of when people found out you are drummer?

I googled the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Although it doesn't show up a lot it sometimes does. Most of the time when I tell people I play drums they're sort of "That's nice" about it. When I tell them I...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I like Jim Gordon's piano part in "Layla". I tend to tune out the guitars.

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

That's a pretty snare drum. I'm not a fan of tube lugs but on that drum they look great.

Re: New Parent to a Young Drummer

How old is your son? If he's younger than seven or eight this might be just a passing fancy. Don't try to push him. It's important that it stays fun for him. What's the music education situation at...

Re: Are 13" toms obsolete?

I dunno, I've got both and I like both and I like both. I've got my rack toms offset to the left. I basically have it set up as a 4-piece with an extra tom off to the left. On the Stage Custom the...

Re: Other musicians' view of drums.

At a gig last year the guy who handles the between-song patter says "I want to take a moment to introduce the band." After he introduces the guitar, bass and keyboard players he says "Now for our...

Re: Tips on drum rooms?

Another thing to keep in mind is the fireproof rating of any material you may put in the room. It would be worth spending a few (or a lot of) extra dollars just for the peace of mind.

Re: tama slp power maple snare

I would not recommend buying a snare drum without hearing it in person with your own ears first. I took an afternoon recently to demo some snares at Guitar Center. Came away with the Pork Pie...

Re: Which snare drum for specific sound

Even if you had the exact same drum you would still need the same microphones, the same heads, the same tuning, the same room, and the same eq, compressor, and reverb settings. What album is the...

Re: Just a G.A.S. observation

I find that my fear of pulling the trigger on new gear keeps my G.A.S somewhat in check. That said, I've purchased a new Pork Pie snare drum, a Yamaha hi-hat stand, an Aquarian snare drum head and...
