Re: Ringo Drumming Live - Compilation

I think part of the reason, or maybe all the reason, from what I have read,

was so that you could see him better.

Ringo was a "Starr"!

Re: Tuning Tom Heads To The Same Pitch

To follow up, I got new heads, and the results are the same.

So I guess, for whatever reason, whether it's phase or the room or the tom itself, to my ears, this floor tom just doesn't sound good...

Re: Kenny Jones Ripping it Up With The Small Faces

The whole band kicks ass in every way.

There is another I've seen from that same show of them doing Maybe I'm Amazed. Great!

Re: Tuning Tom Heads To The Same Pitch

I don't think it's the room.

I will check out the video as soon as I can.

Why don't you go for the same pitch?

Re: Tuning Tom Heads To The Same Pitch

Yes, love that!

My aim in general is usually Ringo, or some various solo Beatle sound...Imagine, etc.

Re: Tuning Tom Heads To The Same Pitch

The F is higher than I usually go, but the guy in the vid at F sounded good, deep and full, deeper than mine at a lower pitch!

Are all vintage Ludwigs 3 ply with the rounded edge?

I wish now I...

Tuning Tom Heads To The Same Pitch

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I've been experimenting with different tunings on toms, and I found something I think I like for the floor tom (16" Ludwig Classic Maple), which as...

Re: Beatles-What Goes On-Ringo

Could you maybe point me to a video tutorial that shows that? I've seen various videos and it seems there are a few different ways to go. Moehler with your palm down, or more a french style, etc. I...

Beatles-What Goes On-Ringo

Hey drummers,

So you know the song What Goes On by The Beatles with good ol Ringo singing, right?

Seems like a simple song, but I find it quite hard to play.

I am basically a beginner, and...

Do you keep your cardboard boxes?

Just wondering?

I have a big pile of cardboard boxes in my garage that my drums and all other gear came in.

Am I a hoarder?! I think I should either throw them all away or at least break them...

Re: guitars too loud, why?!!

There's good loud and bad loud.

I used to play with a guy who had a Fender Twin. He actually had a clean sound, but loud, and the tone was like f*ckin ice picks. Just a brutal piercing annoying...

Re: Was anyone in the audience for Fred Armisen's Drummer's Only comedy show?

Hahaha! That made me laugh.

I generally love Fred Armisen, I haven't seen this yet, just the trailers, looking forward to it. Comedy is about as subjective as it gets.

I don't really consider...

Re: Good Buddy Rich quote on practice

Found some funky stuff from him, never heard him playing stuff like this before!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX2yfD1E47Q

This one sounds like a cop show from the 70s...or porn music.

Re: Good Buddy Rich quote on practice

Regarding him hating rock, I listened to an interview with him where he talks about how a drummer should be able to play anything (that sure as hell counts me out!), whether it's with a band like The...

Found the interview:

Well, I never really practiced because I never had the opportunity to practice. I've been working all my life...

Re: Good Buddy Rich quote on practice

Ringo said the same thing from early on (not that he's a Buddy Rich, of course)...but he said he never practiced ever, only played with people. He also started relatively late, starting on thimble...

Re: Recording drums - Process issues and questions

I think it's pretty much customary not only different takes, but quantizing/fixing the drums...not to mention drum replacing or enhancing with samples.

Re: What's the worst drumming mistake you've heard on a professional recording?

Not sure if it's a mistake, seems like it could be...I wouldn't call it the worst...maybe the best! But the roll before the first chorus in The Beatle's Rain is very odd, comes down on the wrong...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

True in some ways...

but it's all relative...Ringo was a better choice at the time, better drummer, better personality, better fit all the way around. Pete had his style but already was not...

Re: Example of double stroke roll in songs

I'm not entirely new, but I am new to actually trying to learn stuff...a bit of rudiments and technique etc. Drums are not my first instrument, I just like playing them! Come to think of it, I'm not...

Re: Example of double stroke roll in songs

Just to add a novice type question to this but......

I'm doing this song where I want to put in a very fast military type sound snare roll every once in awhile for a single beat of a bar. So the...

Re: Pete Best - His Weaknesses as a Drummer?

Yeah, George Martin should have replaced all of them...none of em were any good. Ringo was the best one really and he stinks compared to real drummers. John could barely play at all, George sounds...
