Re: Ever have a drumming dream?

You mentioned that one where things got hot and heavy with Robert Plant in another thread, so this tracks. What's with all the Zepp dreams?

Re: How do you know when to crash?

As others have pointed out, you just need to listen closely to music with definite intent to study that aspect. When you hear the drummer crashing, ask yourself why he/she might have made that...

Re: Snare buZZZZZZ and recording

Now that I think back on it, it's possible I got that tip from you... Would have been a while back. Much further than my 5 minute memory span will allow for.

Re: Snare buZZZZZZ and recording

I like the sound of your toms in that recording, Art.

Larry, can I hear some of the fruits, of your efforts? Got a recording handy?

Has anyone else here tried de-tuning the 4 lugs aside each...

Re: How do you feel during your drum lessons?

I usually "feel" like I can't do even the simple stuff I normally wouldn't even think about.

I'm used to it now and just know that I won't play to full ability under the gaze of a good instructor....

Re: The jazz ride pattern

Hey Larry, you're in the same position I was. It's kind of staggering how different this is, but that's also what makes it exciting and new. It won't be a fast process or easy process, but that's a...

Re: Volume or resonance?

Volume is how loud a sound is, for our purpose resonance is kinda like how long the sound lasts.

The more resonant something is, the more it vibrates freely, thus creating sound.

res·o·nance...

Re: Tool "Sober" drum fill/Sheet music

As far as tool songs go, that one is pretty approachable.

What fill you having trouble with?

Re: The jazz ride pattern

Literally, the ONLY thing that helped me was listening to lots and lots of jazz that included this stuff. Conceptualizing the jazz ride or over-analyzing it in a clinical manner just doesn't work...

...And I cannot lie, you other brothers can't deny, when a drum walks in with 2 big round heads and deep bass note you get SPRUNG...

Re: Just an observation

The 90's themselves were amazing, and really that was the last generation things could stay that way. Online music sharing came onto the scene and the recording industry almost immediately lost it's...

Re: What sticking do you use?

If I wanted it to sound like doubles, then sure. Otherwise, much easier to just use singles unless there's a reason to free up one hand for something that happens before or after that passage.

Re: What's your favorite cover (maybe limit to 2-3 songs) that your band plays right now?

That song has a really cool groove, too. Very straight ahead rock, but somehow with a jazzier inflection, especially during certain parts; which I suppose was the point. Sometimes I almost want to...

Re: Just an observation

I feel lucky that way too. Different generation, but most of my teen years were spent in the 90's and damn did we have some good "real" music in the 90s. Grunge, alt, and rock were in a pretty...

Re: Playing different UNRELATED tempo's simultaneously?

? What? It might take a while, and be pretty pointless, but I'm positive you could click out and play to any 2 tempo numbers. Thing is, with the tempo only slightly off on each by 7 bpm, nobody...

Re: PEARL SESSION STUDIO SELECT VS PEARL MASTERS MAPLE COMPLETE

I LOVE that glitter finish/wrap. Beautiful. I'm drawn to the "loud" finishes and wraps and my "main" kit is a scarlet red to black fade over birch which some people get turned off by. Me, I'm a...

Re: Turning Points?

My first Clutch show.

Tiny little venue and I was like 20 feet from JP Gaster just absolutely ripping the drumheads off the rims without even breaking a sweat.

I still remember that being the...

Re: Putting band name on kick drum head, with multiple bands?

Seems weird to me that the clings would actually stay on a head that's moving as much as those do. Are we talking almost full head size?

Re: Things you need to work on the most?

That's sort of an odd one... We use singles a lot more in typical playing!

Now, just the act of focusing on single stroke roll and all parts of each stroke is a great thing to do, not knocking...

Re: Playing the drumset without sticks..

I have to point out that there's a difference between abusing an instrument and playing it alternately? They could have just as easily abused it another way or with sticks for that matter. Horror...

Re: Things you need to work on the most?

Jazz, man.

I'm finally making strides but it was a long time in coming. Growing up and learning in a purely rock/funk context made jazz like a whole other language. I first had to learn to...

Re: Recording a cover officially - our story so far

Warms my dead heart when people take steps to respect others. Right on Andy. Doing things the right way is hard enough when you don't have to jump a bunch of hoops.

Re: What sticking do you use?

I had a teacher who came from a marching background and always said that I should play alternating hands unless there's a reason to do otherwise; which happens often. In my own head, I'm still doing...

Re: Playing the drumset without sticks..

Some of it's accidental, some of it's trolling, and some of it is just people who really don't like some weird aspect of the video. There's even idiots who take vendettas against youtubers and...

Re: hihat/kick <-> heel up/down

I normally keep my ankle/foot sort of relaxed on the hihat side. I think it depends a lot on how you sit.

I'd raise your seat up a bit (maybe) to make sure your balance is on center and not on...
