I've tried coated sticks before and it does not seem to be a matter of the texture of the stick,they slide exactly the same.Have Been playing for 16 years now,never had a teacher(which might account)...

In my left hand,when using traditional grip,the stick starts sliding down all the time.it's not a problem of sweaty hands...What am I doing wrong?

My question is...out of the 3 options he gives, when do we use one as opposed to the others?when you're comping in jazz ,for example,which note groupings in the left hand require one or the other?

when using traditional grip my left hand feels extremely weak. I Was told that using those 2 fingers on top of the stick plus the thumb,by sheer weight,would amount to the power of matched grip.

I dont mean to start a pinky- or -not -pinky like discussion but,with traditional grip,do you use both index and middle on top of the stick or just the index.I hear contradictory information

Bottom line is... play,thanks,because I never do(ever).I just practice intricate patterns and fills for the sake of solving the puzzle. I Always suspected( rather I always KNEW) that was the cause...

question to bass drum slide technique users

just narrowing down a question I asked here before... is it possible to do fast 16 note triplets and groups of 4 using the slide technique?I found lots of evidence on youtube that you can do them...

managed to trancribe it...just need to know if the guy is sneakily using his left hand to hit the hi-hat for the 3s in the first measures of the groove,it's difficult to tell...

Free stroke/moeller/open-close techniques and ride cymbal angle

am I wrong in thinking that anybody using those techniques on the ride cymbal need to mount it flat or flattish (a la Buddy Rich) on the stand? or do they work exactly the same on angled rides ?

I'm trying to follow the advice heard in an interview to train my ears into when to fill in a jazz tune ..."get one jazz song and, playing quarter notes on the ride, try to identify and memorise...

is there any rough guideline (some rule of thumb or common sense approach) as to how not to overplay or even when not to play in a song ...or is it just a matter of intuition and taste ?
