Re: The state of pop music

As an old fart, quite frankly in a genre of auto-tuned, studio created non-talented "pop stars" I think Ed Sheeran deserves some props. He's a song writer, can seriously play the guitar and if you...

Re: Stage Etiquette

1. If sharing a kit respect the owner of the kit, don't beat the crap out of someone else's kit. Nothing worse than having someone leave your kit with dings in all the heads. Worst ever, another...

Re: Drilling A Hole In your Thumb

Ouch, drilled into the web between my left thumb and index finger last summer while remodeling my daughter's kitchen, made playing traditional grip impossible for several weeks. Of course my wife...

Re: Where do all the drum sets go?

As the father of a daughter who is a middle school/high school band director in a poor school district I would ask that all of you consider donating any type of drums, gear to a local school music...

Re: Musicians who don't want to rehearse

Personally I like to rehearse at least once a week, not only to get new stuff down but to run through stuff we already have played to make sure we are all on the same page. Unfortunately two of the...

About 4 years ago we were asked to play at a church/town fair in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania..not sure why we said yes, but we did. About a 2 1/2 hour drive each way, finally get to the place...

Re: Let's talk soloing, again.

Larry, I know how you feel...I can't remember the last time I felt comfortable soloing, except perhaps for a short solo that I usually play the same over and over again in the same song.

For me...

Re: Maybe at that, the cost of the gear doesn't matter.

Play my Yamaha Oak Customs when gigging and a Tama Swingstar kit at church every Sunday...in the acoustics of the big church sanctuary and with the sound system in the church the Swingstars sound...

Re: Drum Shields??

Play behind them, play without them...really not that big a deal depending on the venue. Then again playing behind clear plastic shields is a lot better protection from bar fights than chicken wire...

Agree that your student can and will adapt if he is really interested in learning. My father lost his index and middle fingers on his left hand in an industrial accident in his early twenties. He...

Re: Trans-Gender Lyrics...

Then there's Melissa Etheridge, example: "I'm the only one"..we know she is singing about another woman but the song could very well be sung to a man.

As long as the music's good, who cares!
