Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

I took Larry's comment to be rhetorical. The church/state overlap is really incidental to the broader issue of scientific illiteracy. If Intelligent Design and Creationism are presented as 'science',...

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

That's a notion that's being taught in American public schools alongside math and science. And we know how American kids are doing in math and science.

Re: Unpopular Drumming Opinion Thread

In a logical world, you'd be 100% correct. But in this reality...it already IS happening, to some degree.

In 2012, Tennessee state lawmakers approved the teaching of creationism as part of its...

Re: Bass Drum Volume / Running Through PA

Oh my god...so terribly sorry about your daughter. You're unbelievably tough to keep moving ahead as you obviously have. That fvcking lowlife piece-of-crap plankton vomit biker @sshole...I'd like to...

Re: THE AMBIDEXTROUS THREAD

Now THIS is interesting. And I didn't even know one could be 'left-eyed' or 'right-eyed'.

I do almost all sports right handed, but write, drum and eat with my left. How does one determine which...

Re: Tempo problems!

That's what I do! I always pretend the click is a guy with a woodblock/cowbell/etc. playing right behind me. It sounds strange but it really helps me groove.

Re: Bass Drum Volume / Running Through PA

Yeah, I really bury it. No sugar-coating: I'm a stomper. My foot technique is pretty terrible. I compensate with fury. (Not an equal trade-off, by any means.)

Still, it's good to know it's not...

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

I read it, and checked out that clip.

So who am I watching in the video? I'm still getting to know people on this forum...are the David Floegel and Jack Pollitt mentioned in the comments members...

Re: I've learned so much here.

+1 to all the above.

I've actually been reading this forum for years...only joined last year. Glad I did but I still do more reading than posting, and I've learned a whole hell of a lot.

Re: Hahahahahahahaha :)

Great. Now I feel terrible for laughing at all these cruel comments.

You're being too nice, Larry, but what really drives me nuts is that you're right.

Re: Bass Drum Volume / Running Through PA

Glad this came up, because I have a question about the hole/no hole conundrum.

I liked the sound my bass drum had with a full front head, but it was the action that I hated; I've got a fairly...

Re: Bass Drum Volume / Running Through PA

You are fvcking awesome. The fact that you didn't even mention your disability in the original post blows my mind. Keep kicking ass, my friend, you've got a fan right here.

You've got to check out this site:

Re: The mediocre drum guru?

I have the opposite problem: I'm awesome but I can't get people to notice.

Kidding, of course. The truth is I was recently solicited for advice by a 17-yr-old new drummer, and found myself...

I could have written this post myself. Well stated, Mr. Eder. It describes my feelings about this to a T.

Re: Mike Bordin

Though I wasn't a fan of Faith No More, I was immediately impressed with Bordin's drumming when they first broke, and kept an eye on him through the years with different projects. He always struck me...

Re: Bo rants!

Sounds to me like there's some good, some bad in the situation.

The good: The guitarist and bassist have known each other for 25 years.

The bad: The guitarist and bassist have known each other...

Re: Bad Auditions

I've got a tale from the other side of the coin that helps illustrate just how whimsical choosing a band mate can be.

I was in a band for a few years with two brothers; we had a bass player who...

Oh, MAN! You just need to get your confidence up.

And I've BEEN THERE! I've thought about quitting more than once. There were a few times when I was absolutely certain that throwing away the...

Re: Roger Taylor

I'll tell you how great Roger Taylor is:

I'm not a fan of Queen. Nothing against them, but the concept always seemed too contrived for me.

Even so, Roger Taylor's drumming has always impressed...

Re: Tommy Ramone - major influence

I don't have a single-head kit photo to display. I just wanted to express my appreciation for Tommy's drumming and his vital role in creating one of my favorite all-time bands.

Thank you, Mr....

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

Yeah, you could be right. I guess I was unsure of how objective the statement was: is the OP actually getting sloppy and uncoordinated, or does he just perceive himself to be getting sloppy and...

Re: Negative Progress / Quitting

THIS.

Hey, man, I've been there, and it's very frustrating: you struggle with things that used to come easily. You feel like you're regressing and you don't know why.

But what I came to realize...

Re: Not denting heads

Early on in my playing, I constantly broke sticks, dented heads, and cracked cymbals.

Now, it's rare that I dent or crack anything. Sticks still break, but they last several times longer than they...
