Re: Hi-Hat advice

Hi hat stands are one of those things that don't matter as much as the other gear unless you need a shorter rod, or have space concerns. Look into how much each costs used and new and try them out...

Re: Practice Pads

I'd say one of these since you're beginning and sticks will be all over the place better to have a good size space to hit. Probably need both types of surface. Learn the movement and feel on soft...

Practice several techniques, starting slow, maybe using lower spring tension, and playing with a metronome.

Listen to what Jojo Mayer says in this video. Same principle here to use doubles and...

Re: Ludwig Snare (not supraphonic, not an Acrolite)?

Not sure if its a good idea but I usually take light rust off by rubbing aluminum foil wet with just distilled vinegar. I would think it would remove light pitting. Just a thought.

Congrats on...

Re: Mapex Pro M vs Mapex Saturn

Pro M's are pretty close in quality as the saturns. The gold badge Pro M's and saturns are either chinese or american maple veneer with basswood/maple shells. The silver badge Pro M's are full...

If it makes you feel better I shop at AZDrumshop all the time.

I know exactly what you are talking about and it is beyond irritating. There are only a couple shops in the Phoenix...

What's going with Just Drums? Store closing?

The online site says its closing down for good and offering dealer cost on what seems like most things. Bummed out as I was just now going to buy something I had favorited awhile ago and its out of...

Re: First new kit in 35 years

That is a beautiful finish! Looks gold, copper, orange, and just awesome. I remember reading something about having tom mounts on the bottom of the drum like that picture, don't remember what it...

Re: Signs you're getting better at the drums

LOL I definitely had that first one about 2 years ago and still love his playing, just don't care to play or it or listen to it as much.

The speed increase has taken so long to achieve. Actually...

Re: Thoughs on Mapex?

On top of blowout prices on the meridian series birch and maple, there are blowout prices on older version saturns too. I wish I had future sight instead of hindsight :(

Re: Thoughs on Mapex?

Mapex is a pretty good bang for your buck. I got a 5 piece jazz meridian maple last year for 600. Brand new. So definitely a great deal as I love the sound of it, and it's really nice stuff. I...

Re: I've played only TAMA for years, looking to switch up

Since I've never owned a high end kit, I would say keep it unless you could sell for high so good luck on that. But why not buy a mid range kit or lower end kit from a different company to try it...

Re: I've played only TAMA for years, looking to switch up

I am a big fan of Mapex, have had them for 11 years since I started. Now I've only had mid range quality drums and hardware and up so can't comment on the lower range. I have had Pro M's with the...

Re: Need help choosing drum kit/shell pack

2nd the Mapex and yamaha options. Mapex discontinued the M and Pro M series awhile back, some remnants around the world, wouldn't get them unless its a solid good condition kit. Then the meridian...

Re: Chinese Maple vs. Canadian Maple vs. North American Maple?

If it hasn't been said already. I heard that one main difference between chinese and american/canadian maple is that chinese maple trees are harvested at an earlier stage which supposedly makes them...

Re: Mapex Meridian Maple snare tuning

LOL I understand, mapex is kind of hard to come by and especially get parts, its stressful. Might have to try a thick snare reso head. I still can't believe that the snare hates the ambassador hazy...

Re: What Snare is this?

The snare straps I think are Tama snappy snare straps. The lugs look like tama lugs. Definitely looks like some kind of black nickel finish. Maybe its a tama metalworks.
