Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

A cymbal stacker would probably be too small.

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

That would work. The mount is flexible so it can accept a wide range of tube sizes. I suggest getting something with a short down tube to ensure it doesn't hit the kick drum.

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

I ground down the portion that was interfering. I can now crank the batter quite tight and have just enough clearance (it is still close). I'll grab a pic later.

Re: Ludwig Breakbeats Review

Good review as it covers the pros/cons well. Overall the Breakbeats kit is good but after gigging mine for a while I made a few changes. I replaced the metal bass drum hoops with wood ones,...

Re: Should I convert 14" and 16" toms to floor toms?

Have a look at the Ludwig Atlas Mounts.

Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

Agreed. It takes the typical heads well and tunes up/down with ease (very versatile). If you want to save a bit the stock batters (Ludwig Clear Heavy) make decent reso heads (similar to clear...

Re: What is it?

It's called a Cajon. They can be made or bought ... most music stores carry them.

Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

Agreed. It's not a high-end kit.

Not really. Most dealers end up assembling the kit so the buyer doesn't do any work. However, what this minimalist assembly method unintentionally (I ...

Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

I do hear a difference but not quite sure how to describe it ... I would say a bit more open, more vibey, seems to bring out the tone of the shell more. I'm not doing a good job of articulating but...

Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

I also wanted something elegant/classy but with a bit of flash so I pimped out my Macassar Ebony kit with wood hoops.

Re: More Ludwig Signet porn

I've got a Signet and CM kit in the same sizes and did a direct comparison. They sound similar but not identical (same heads/tuning) ... to my ear the Signets have a bit more attack. To answer your...

Re: Birch Yamaha Stage Custom - Question Regarding heads

My general rule of thumb is coated single-ply batters for recording (e.g. Ambassador/G1) and clear double-ply batters for live (e.g. Emperor/G2).

Don't forget about the reso heads as they can have...

Re: Small and easy to transport drum kit

The stock heads aren't that bad and are quite usable (I've heard much worse stock heads). That being said, there is a noticable improvement with proper heads.

Get a 14" floor tom and 18" kick to make a bop kit.

Re: Cutting a giant hole in my bass drum's shell

Don't forget that a big portion of the KickPort's sound is the mass it adds to the reso head ... you won't get that dampening when the KickPort is mounted in the shell.

Re: Maple or Birch for hard hitters ?

Wow ... you've got to hit really really hard to bend a tension rod. Perhaps it got damaged when moving the drum? A replacement t-rod should be less than $1 to fix and the drum shell material has no...

Re: Taye StudioMaple

I have a Taye StudioMaple kit. It is very high quality, just doesn't have the same cache as more popular brands. What drew me to them specifically was the thin shells without re-rings. The only...

Re: 20" bass drum

A 20" kick can sound huge with the right heads and tuning. My large gigging kit has a 20"x16" kick drum, I'm currently using a Remo Powerstroke 3 batter + Evans EQ3 coated (no port) reso with...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

I'm committed to mine already so no concern there ... I did the same thing and installed a tom mount as well. As for vent holes, not a big deal either as I typically install an XLR jack directly in...

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

I've had my Signet's for a little while now, been loving them ... they sound great. I recently ran into a bit of an issue and am looking for ideas. I'm considering using it as my gigging kit, my...

Re: Upgrading a Ludwig Breakbeats

I installed new heads all around, installed wood bass drum hoops, and installed a DW Bass Drum Lifter (DWCP9908). I also had to machine the snare throw off mount as it hits the batter flesh hoop if...
