Re: Dampening!!!!!!

I wish I had taken pictures. I went to a friend's house who is a guitar player, and put new heads on his drummer's drumset, since he said his drummer doesn't give a shit about the sound that the...

Re: Pity me!

Yes, I agree. Bit of a facetious post. But I'm still left wondering why it takes so long! Also reminds me of the cable company give a time frame of a half day..."We'll be there between 10AM and...

Pity me!

Woe is me. I placed an order for a 14x11 tom tom to add to my prolite kit back on jan 15th. Sonor says the time window is 90-180 days. I wait until my birthday four months later to call the store...

Re: Tama Brass Starphonic...

I was thinking more of a spun shell than a cast one, but I get the point. It sounds great as is, just more of an engineering appreciation I suppose. When I play it, I don't think about how it's...

Re: Tama Brass Starphonic...

I'm loving it. It's loud and very sensitive. Taking a little getting used to, but I love it. And the engineering! It's just amazing. I guess the only thing that could've made it better would be...

Re: If you were sitting behind my kit.

+1 on this. You already have a snare, but you don't have a different cymbal :P

I just bought a new snare and have an extra tom on order, so maybe I should take my own advice, but I don't feel...

Tama Brass Starphonic...

Just got one last week. I'm very impressed. I've long wanted a brass snare and finally have one. I love the groove hoops, which are like S hoops in that they flange in towards the center of the...

Re: Floor tom tuning

I always had trouble with my 18" ft in my old kit until I put a thicker, double ply head on it. For whatever reason it didn't like the thinner heads. I basically just treated it like a bass drum...

Re: Removing sharpie from Ludwig wrapped drum?

The pen trick works with sharpie as well, as the solvent in the sharpie ink will dissolve the dried ink and then can be quickly wiped off with damp cloth. If the surface is smooth enough, a damp...

Re: Dampening!!!!!!

"Slightly better, which is what you want...You can even shove your aunti's underwear in there." The world famous British elegance :P

I like the idea of only wanting something slightly better too....

Re: Am I a freak for not liking virgin bass drums?

I've been noticing a slight metallic ringing sound from the kick mic in my recordings. It goes away if I put some soft blanket or loose pillow in it, but I've started to wonder if it's not the tom...

Re: Tom angles!!!!

I picture some sort of creature with four elbows per arm playing that thing.

Re: Tom angles!!!!

The presence of a Green Day book with the kit makes me wonder if that has anything to do with it.

What I think would be great is to photoshop in what a creature that played that kit might...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

This pretty much. He just stopped caring about music it seemed, at least his instrument. Metallica was a huge musical influence but they lost me with the Black album and I haven't bothered buying...

Re: Sonor Prolite pricing?

Yeah that's crazy. It'd be like buying a brand new Porsche to make a kit car Ferrari. Just pointless and silly. Don't care how good the crafts person is.

Re: Sonor Prolite pricing?

I still have it. I'm currently trying different heads to see if I can make it stand out enough from the rest of the shells. I have ordered the 14x11 and will get it in another two to four months.

Re: Show us your Mapex kits!

That is one pretty kit. Normally I wouldn't go for a color like that, but it works with that kit. Very nice.

Re: New Score off eBay

Congratulations on the purchase. I can't say I've ever played a set of those or been in a room of them being played. I've probably heard recordings of them and not known it...so I can't speak for...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Yeah, it seems because it's high end people think you can get away with it, like a neon yellow Lamborghini. I tend to go the way of treating it like furniture (my current set has the Nussbaum...

Re: Drum Building Zenith? Where to now?

I'm a big believer in the diminishing returns thing, but to make a comparison to cars, the best car in the world 50 years ago would get smoked by a mid to upper mid level car now, and at much less...

Re: New Tama StarClassic Bubinga setup

Congratulations! I've always thought Tama drums, especially their higher end lines, were beautiful. Your set is no exception. Anyway you could provide a better picture of the finish?
