The sexiest ACROLITE you've ever seen.

So a while back I decided to search for a new aluminum snare because of my Acrolite's failing hardware. I had almost decided on a Pearl Sensitone but ultimately settled on pimping it the hell out...

Drum Shell Janka Hardness

I've been doing a bunch of research and I thought I'd post some of my findings on common shell hardness that may clear up some confusion about semantics and misleading advertising.

Feel free to...

Re: Need help replacing Acrolite snare Hardware

Through multiple internet sources I have determined that...

Lugs: 2 3/16"

Re: Need help replacing Acrolite snare Hardware

That's odd, my stock Acro snare wire has plastic strips.
Do you use the Blasters or Customs?

Re: Need help replacing Acrolite snare Hardware

Hmm I will do. I wasn't able to measure them headless or disassembled I just eyed them with a ruler. I read somewhere that the trow mounting holes were 2" so I may have assumed thsis for the lugs as...

Re: Need help replacing Acrolite snare Hardware

Right, I just need the p-86 because my P85 is busted haha. I'm getting a thicker triple flanged batter side hoop (2.3 > 1.6). I've heard that diecast with aluminum snares could be overkill since...

Re: Need help replacing Acrolite snare Hardware

Would it be worth the cash? Might there be any sonic improvement besides the asthetics or at least increase in durability/longevity? Like I said, I may be looking too hard for superficial...

Need help replacing Acrolite snare Hardware

I've decided to put some work into my old Black Galaxy Acrolite. I'm getting the 2.3mm Pearl S-Hoop batter side, a Ludwig P-86 throw-off, and am replacing the wires as well. I figure, since I'm...

Re: Snare drums... can't decide...

What particular situations do you really like your 5" for? I'm having second thoughts about getting the 5" aluminum sensitone. The thing is I can't afford to have multiple snare drums at different...

Re: Help Replacing Snare Throw

Thanks for all the input. I may just give the P-86 a shot. The trick seems awesome but I'm not dropping $70 on a throw heh. It's going on a backup snare anyway as I'm patiently waiting for my...

Re: Beginning drummer wants to buy new drums

Well, I'd say give us a price range first. I don't know how serious you are or might become but if you want anything nicer than poplar, Philippine mahogany, or basswood you'll probably have to pay...

Help Replacing Snare Throw

I have a 14x5" Ludwig Aluminum Acrolite Black galaxy Finish snare. The throw crapped out on me today. Can anybody recommend compatible replacements? I think the P86 is compatible I hear some good...

The ALUMINUM Snare thread.

I'm thinking about a new snare drum soon. I absolutely love the sound I can get from my Ludwig LM404 Aluminum Acrolite 5" x 14" snare with triple-flanged hoops and 8 lugs. I have had this thing...

Re: Help with affordable Maple kit

I took a look at some of those Pro M's and Meridians as well. They seemed like a decent deal but I feel like I'm kind of missing out when there are 6 and 7 piece maple offerings for only $70 more. ...

Help with affordable Maple kit

I have been drumming casually for about 7 years and have been using a poplar Pearl Export Radical. I really want to upgrade to an all-maple kit. I may be able to sell the Export with some cymbals...

Brann Dailor of Mastodon

Has anyone else heard this guy? Mastodon is a pretty good current metal band. If you're into metal you should deffinitely give their newest album, Leviathan, a listen. Brann Dailor is just...

Re: Dave Abbruzzese

I freaking idolize Dave A. he is amazing and has a great style. And he was Pealr Jam's best drummer hands down. I liked Krusen's playing on Ten and Matt cameron is a good drummer as wel but I...

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

I am currently playing a Ludwig Acrolite 14" x 5" Snare Drum with the Evans ST Dry head and I love its sound. It's very reminiscent of Dave Krusen's snare from Pearl Jam's first album, Ten. I'm...
