Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

Yeah man that's what I'm saying. I guess the answer is that it depends on the situation you are in. My other bands let me fill whenever and they can all keep up with it. When I don't fill and play...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

I still think you are misunderstanding me, or I am not communicating clearly enough. Check out the links I posted if you have to.

Amen to that, that's how I feel. And yes, I do refine as I go...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

No, because personally I consider that part of the groove. I mean something like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hupE_J8XCE

Which is nothing like the recording. Probably a bad example,...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

I only play for the song when I fill.

I think some of you guys are getting the wrong impression of me. I'm not obnoxiously playing fourths over a song in 3/4, I'm not doing fills at the end of...

Dude you hit it right on the spot man,SO well said... I'm good with timing and stuff but I have never had to be so rigid before. I feel like a stallion being tamed right now to the point where after...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

Great advice, thanks. I appreciate your keep-it-simple outlook on drumming by the way!

This is true, I will talk about it today.

At first I felt like they were giving me all this...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

That's exactly what I do, but I'm not playing arenas yet so I'm wondering if it's bad practice. Thanks man!

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

I've been in many bands Bermuda, this is the first time a band has told me otherwise. I think you are interpreting my use of the word "improvisation" a little too extremely. I like to change my drum...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

Sounds good. it's just like American Football/Tiger's Jaw/ Lydia/ Brand New. This is what I get for being influenced by old time drummers haha...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

Yes I'm on time. They just want me to play the same set of fills each time I perform a song. Very boring, but if this is the way it has to be done then I will have to get used to it.

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

It's a mix of American Football, Brand New, Lydia, Tiger's Jaw etc... This sucks man, when I started drumming I thought it would be more fun... Gotta get used to it I guess. And no, I'm talking about...

Re: Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

Yeah man they want different fills, I'm just wondering if I should play the same fills at the same time I play them each time I perform the song.

Should I memorize my drum fills or improvise?

My band wants me to play the same thing every time we practice, but I am too used to improvising fills to cater what feels right at the time. I was wondering if it is normal to improvise drum fills,...

Re: How to Build a Custom Bass Drum

Re: How to Build a Custom Bass Drum

Yeah you're right with the edit, haha. It's cool. Yeah I need help deciding on shells for a bass drum. I was researching earlier, I'm not sure if I should go for mahogany or maple, etc.

How to Build a Custom Bass Drum

Hey all!

I'm working with a company who is giving me a discounted price on drums- sorta like a minor endorsement deal (for now). I've never build a bass drum before, so I have no idea how to start...

Re: 42 vs 30 vs 20 Strand Snare Wires

Yup, already got that covered. And my brass shell rings a lot- does it's job. But I wanted less ring, so I added snare wires. Thanks man :)

42 vs 30 vs 20 Strand Snare Wires

I have a Pork Pie BOB and it's been working perfectly for me until I remove the aquarian studio ring I have. When I do, it sounds a lot less fat. I was wondering if getting more than 20 snare strands...

Re: Metal Snare Drums vs. Humidity

True.... I'll keep the windows open, that kills the humidity big time. I'll move my wood drums upstairs and keep the cymbals and stuff down there while it's cold.

Metal Snare Drums vs. Humidity

Is it safe to keep my brass snare drum in the basement where it does have a slight humidity problem? Also, does the same go for cymbals?

Re: Pork Pie Versus Ludwig: Underdog versus Tradition

Haha, really? I shouldn't worry at all then... I'm a bad buyer with drums because I want to buy what I'll spend the most time using, which is why I blew a paychecks on my Rev. Al ride haha... I guess...
