Re: Nuggets of hard won wisdom

I try to get to the gig and get set-up before the guitar players arrive because they always want to put their stuff right next to my cymbal stands leaving no room if I want to adjust them outwardly....

Re: Let's Talk Snare Drums

The reason we all play Acros is because they give the best bang for your buck. I love aluminum snare drums myself. I own two and a BoB. I used to have a Ddrum maple, but didn't like it as much.

Re: Nuggets of hard won wisdom

Yes. I was once a mild-mannered reporter.

Re: So you're going to a band audition...

I appreciate it when people send me links to their music because most bands, to me, sound like crap and I don't want to play with them anyway. So why waste my time? Plus, if you're not 420 friendly...

Re: Metal drummers using Gretsch?

It's like showing up to Easter Sunday services wearing a Christmas sweater, eh?

Re: Let's Talk Snare Drums

I've been playing a steel shell sound percussion snare drum at my garage band practice for the last year and a half to two years. It has not been so bad that I want to trade it out with one of my...

Re: Band vent....

Maybe your singer can go to his house and woodshed the song with him.

Re: Let's Talk Snare Drums

Thank you for the nice information and the history lesson.

Congratulations on passing 10,000 posts in this forum.

On subject, I would say I like my Pork Pie BOB snare drum better than my...

Re: Do Youtube Drum Covers Influence What/How You Play?

I'm not sure if this has been addressed yet, but, most of the songs (unless they're really old) you get on YouTube were done in the studio and "put together" from multiple tracks. I'd say a better...

Re: The foot is the key to groove

I'd agree in a way because we are always trying to match the bass drum kicks with the bass playing.

Re: Who "invented" the rock beat?

Clearly, none of these people know what they are talking about. Ringo Starr invented the rock beat. Do not doubt this.

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

I wanted a second set of drums and cymbals (hats, ride & 2 crashes). I bought all used stuff and it cost me about a thousand dollars. That's with finding great deals on everything, and I didn't buy...

Re: Looking For Best Drumset with cymbals!

Shoot if you're going to spend that much money on a Mapex M5 drum kit, you may as well get a used Saturn or Gretsch Renoun drum kit for that much money.

Re: A new idea? Probably not.

I couldn't do it, Bo. I need that hi tom for my pseudo-Latin rhythms and my pseudo-reggae rhythms. I might do that if I'm just practicing at home doing some rhythm patterns, etc. But, I never...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

I got new coated Emps for my toms, but now I'm very reluctant to put them on. The current heads are almost two years old, the coating is wearing off, but there are no dents. These old heads seem...

Re: Which Snare Wires to Get

I think steel ones will rattle at a lower pitch.

Great to hear, shake and bake, looking forward to your review.

Re: Anyone recognize this set?

Honestly, because of that bass drum being only six lug, I wouldn't bother with this kit. If you want old MIJ drums, get ones that came from the Pearl factory with the coffin lugs.

Re: Are you a drum person or a cymbal person

I spend more money on cymbals, but I spend more time on drums. Whatever that tells you. I would rather work with wood and build drums than work with metals and make cymbals. Whatever that tells you.

Re: Which Snare Wires to Get

You know, when you start a thread like this, we will need some resolution eventually. So, what did you get?
16-Strand Puresound wires is what works for me every time, not that I change wires a lot.
