Re: Drummers who QUANTIZE recorded drums

As long as it gets a good sound, I don't care if you quantize, compress, EQ, trigger, or whatever else.

The problem is that, like auto-tune, when it's overused it just doesn't SOUND good any more....

Re: Overdrumming

These terms are meaningless because they're relative to the rest of the instrumentation.

Just say someone's playing isn't appropriate for the song/style. Tech death and grindcore bands need a...

Re: Hands up fans of 13" diameter snare drums

Those are all I've got. Only 14 I ever had was an Acrolite and I sold it a while ago.

Re: Which cymbals are better?

Depends on sound and budget.

Want something aggressive and mid-priced? Paiste Alpha.

High-end bright cymbals? Sabian AA/AAX.

Jazzy dark high-end cymbals? Zildjian K's.

Don't forget Meinl...

Looks to me like the "new" kits are just the old ones with new names. They're still maple, birch...

Re: Trading up, need help! Sonor / Tama

I moved them all around, actually. I think it's better now, even. The gap in the middle is there because I'm adding stuff later, namely splashes.

Re: Big floor tom vs. Small bass drum

You'd be fine. The way they'd be tuned, the kick would have less tone to it and more "thump" whereas the tom would have actual tone and boom, unless you tuned the kick particularly high and the tom...

Re: Trading up, need help! Sonor / Tama

Speaking of the rack, I think I'm going to replace all the curved pipes with straight ones.

The big problem with curved pipes is that if they aren't perfectly horizontal, it starts making the...

Re: Trading up, need help! Sonor / Tama

Beastly. See, I like the "slap" of clear heads, so these guys treat me perfectly. With an Evans Torque Key, it's 3 atop 4 with the rack toms, 2 atop 3 for the floors. Plenty of meat to 'em. I'm just...

Re: Favorite metal snare.

Cheaper than all of the above, but I have yet to find a snare I like more than my Tama Metalworks.

Re: 3 piece kits

The smallest kit I can conceive is a 4pc with hats and a particularly good crash/ride. Anything less and I absolutely don't believe enough variety of sound can be achieved outside of a VERY narrow...

Seems like you're right. Okay, probably going for Super II's on the toms, then.

Re: Trading up, need help! Sonor / Tama

They're more for a big THUMP, yes? I don't anticipate needing a whole lot of subtlety with my toms.

Re: Trading up, need help! Sonor / Tama

Sexcellent! I don't think I'll be buying them until my next paycheck, hopefully the sale will continue. Fortunately I have a SK2/Regulator still in my attic from my old kit.

Re: Trading up, need help! Sonor / Tama

Voting seems overwhelmingly toward Sonor, which is good because that's what I was leaning towards.

I'm thinking of going Aquarian heads on it too, just to switch up. superkick/regulator,...
