Re: New Pearl Wood Fiberglass

That setup looks like my beat-up 70s Thunderking kit, except mine has an 8-lug kick and the steel snare. I wish I could restain/refinish my kit in that color.

Re: Is it OK to talk about the movie "Whiplash" yet?

AS A MOVIEGOER: Its not weird enough to be black comedy, and not intriguing or insightful enough to be taken seriously and/or make me suspend my disbelief. The characters are so one-dimensional that...

Re: How do you count while olaying drums?

Once I've determined the tempo of the pulses, my reckoning of rhythmic patterns can be based on either the time signature, melodic/lyric cadence, or chord changes, or a combination of these. For...

Re: Vistalite Bass Drum tuning

But that's the whole point of Vistalites. They are loud drums with tons of overtones.

Re: Bonham amber vistalite purchase/questions

It should sound hollow ever with the PS3, like a marching band bass drum. Felt/cloth strips will make it more Bonham-like. But try the hollow setup for a few days. You might get to like it if you...

Re: If you were sitting behind my kit.

17s, 18s, 19s, 20s, they're all good. When the 2013 A's came out, I found 18" and 20" thins, and a 17" medium thin that I REALLY liked. I ended up with the 18" because I already had A 20" crash-ride...

Re: Blurred lines ripped off the "feel"

Does this mean Colleen Williams can come after any of us if we play the "Fred" hihat figure? :-)

Re: For those who play at church or not.

Some years ago the pastor of our church asked me about a shield because people were complaining about the "loudness" of the drums. I told him that the 1) the drums were not set up and tuned properly...

Re: Kick sound horrible!

I'm assuming you are using other mics and a mixer, right? Can we hear the whole mix?

That kick sound is not "horrible" per se. There are situations where that will actually work. Its probably...

Re: suggestions for best rods and brushes

I'm still using my Regal Tip classics. I remember it was the one I liked most when I bought it many years ago.

P.S. Whatever you get, don't forget coated heads on your snare.

Re: Still having a blast playing at 60; I am even more absorbed now..

I have 9 years to go before retiring (65) from my teaching job and have been thinking of what to do after. Thanks for the idea.

Re: I made it into the jazz band!!!

Congratulations. I was in college jazz band for one semester, and it was a great experience. I hope it will be for you too.

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

Here's another route. Splurge on a killer, keeper snare first. A Benny Greb is under CDN$1000. 14x5 Black Beauty goes for under CDN$700. A Sensitone Brass is under CDN$500. Then get a killer pedal. A...

Re: Pearl Crystal Beat Drums

I also noticed the new Spotlight series. It seems to replace both the Forum and Target. The small 4-piece (10, 14, 18kick, 13 snare) looks like an interesting option for a low cost small kit. All it...

Re: 2014 STAGE CUSTOM, better than ever?

Re: Help with plastic souding Tama Superstar Hyperdrive, PLEASE

Age is not a factor. "Stock" heads simply suck. At least change your batters first. Resos can follow.

Re: Help with plastic souding Tama Superstar Hyperdrive, PLEASE

1) Is your idea of "lower more drum like sound" what you hear in records? If so, then it is very different from the drivers seat. Mics (whether close or far) hear things very differently than your...

Re: Will anyone ever write another 'classic'

The last wedding I went to was of a cousin who is in his 30s, and we danced to a lot of 90s music.

Re: early 70's Pearl? what else?

I have a mid 70s Pearl kit, and Ive seen 70s catalogs. I've never seen these lugs. They could have been replaced, like I did when they started breaking.
