Re: How does Gavin do this?

My favourite Letterman drummer moment was a long time ago, maybe 20 years? Gina Schock from the Go Go's was there and Anton said, hey why don't you sit in for a tune. Doesn't this happen as Dave is...

Re: Trying out the Dunnett R4-L strainer

The Trick is in my opinion the best made, smoothest throw on the market. The price though deters me 95% of the time. For $50 Canadian, the DW with the 3 way adjustable butt is the absolute best buy...

Re: Help me identify the wood species

Absolutely the wood on the budget kits is really tough to make look good. There is a reason why they wrap them to start with. Compact, you should take a drive to Century Mill Lumber in Stouffville....

Re: Ludwig Copper Phonic

Educated guess here that crush buys the exact same shell from the same supplier as these guys.

Re: Trying out the Dunnett R4-L strainer

REALLY?
I bought one Ronn throw off, it too needed two hands to engage the snares, brand new out of the package.
I will admit, better than any antique design Ludwig, but he charges full pop and...

Re: "Oh no - Not another new bearing edge!"

LMAO, sorry that was me.
And if you think Ronn would ask for your blessing, you must have a big firewall over there in England. The guys ego is legendary.

Re: Carbon fibre

I don't plan on repeating this build, I like building wood snares. My friend at MOJO drums is still making carbon fibre shells and snares. He is in Mississipi I think. His old partner originally...

Re: Carbon fibre

It is loud, similar to fibreglass, but has a deeper floor tom like undertone that you do not get with fibreglass. This drum has great snare response, no sympathetic buzz, plays really nice. I have...

Re: Wanting To Try To Setup A Ronnie Tutt Blue Sparkle Tribute Kit - HELP??

There are many small boutique custom builder guys like myself who could build that kit for you, and if not in a hurry could find everything used, probably era correct too. I am in Canada, so that is...

Re: Help me identify the wood species

Yes, more than likely. Judging by the big holes for the tom mounts, it is obviously a budget kit, so lots of filler wood. But looks better than most budget kit innards.

Carbon fibre

This snare will be heading to its new home, a recording studio in Nashville. Hopefully it will become a part of music history.
Started life as a carbon fibre shell which I was not happy with the...

Re: Help me identify the wood species

Definitely not maple. I would say Birch with a 90% confidence.

Although to many people, it looks similar to maple and Poplar, Birch is has deep more pronounced fine grain which shows best in the...

Re: Anyone ever paint a cowbell? or strip one?

The coating you choose may also affect the sound to some degree, I would think so anyways. I have a very early LP. It is pre-logo and simply is stamped in capital letters LATIN PERCUSSION. Has a deep...

Re: Guru snare competition results!

Magenta should win something for bringing us folks in North America the term "Chuffed to bits"

I will now have to find the right occasion to slip that one in.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Some of you may know I build my own drums, along with the 20-24 wood snares I still own that I built, I also own several Brass, bronze, copper snares from different manufacturers, Ludwig, TRS, Pearl....

Re: Premier Aviation Spitfire Series

I am curious why Premier chose the name on this line. I was expecting to see wing mounted machine guns, Rolls Royce Merlin engines, some RAF camouflage paint. Something to tie in with the Spitfire...

Re: Why the hate? (Lars Ulrich)

I think it is fairly obvious Lars made his millions and could not give a rats ass about being a great drummer. He does not practice and I think his skill as a drummer is continuously getting worse....

Re: How do I fix this?

I am not familiar with that throw, but it looks necessary that you will need to pul the heads, and remove the whole throw off from the shell in order to access the innards. You may not need to buy or...

Whenever I could, like if our singer was talking to the crowd or there was a moment between songs, I would tap my heel on the quarters of the next tune and click the 1 quietly just prior to the...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

I played professionally for over 30 years, and I just pulled off my first real 3 stroke per hand buzz roll a couple days ago.
I am learning to play like a drummers drummer for myself now, and the...

I crashed my motorcycle during an afternoon of hardcore sport bike riding. Broke a bone in my right bass drum foot and shattered my pinky finger. Played that night, pretty painful. Hit the hospital...

Re: Hoops?

That is kind of interesting Porter, cause I feel really at home with die cast. Maybe that has to do with what you were brought up on and are used to.
My first "pro" kit was a new 1982 Gretsch kit,...
