Sorry to hear about your pain situation - try contacting Dom Famularo to have a look at what you're doing - Skype or in person if you can... He's all about pain-free playing...
Good luck!

Re: Bass Drum Issue
I used to get buzzes, but changed up to not burying the beater. I don't have any advice on burying the beater without the buzzes, other than abandoning that technique...
Maybe give it a try, it's...

Re: Getting some air in there. :)
Arky pretty much covers it!
BTW, do you play a lot with just fingers? The Full Stroke will get your wrists working for you... It's about using the right tools for the job, sometimes you need to...

Definitely get the book, Like Evil said there are other great exercises throughout.
Yeah, starting with the FreeStroke at 60 BPM is great... Stick heights should all be the same - not sure what you...

Re: George Lawrence Stone
Best way to practice this stuff:
Play each exercise for one minute, move right on to the next one (that first page will take you 24 mins).
Each day move up the metronome.
After a week, go on...

I'm also a fan of metal snares. I had a Drum Paradise Hit-maker a few years ago, which had a World Max brass shell. Great sounding drum...
Now I've been trying heavier gauge metal shells - I...

Re: Metal snare drums
If you're looking for a ''high end'' metal snare, and went through the usual Ludwigs, then check out some heavier gauge drums. The heavier shells usually cost more, but the results can be worth it. ...

Re: Moeller - which grip?
Dom got me playing Moeller in all three grips... French works great for playing time on a ride cymbal... That's the great thing about matched grip - many options - don't limit yourself to just one...

Re: Moeller - which grip?
Most definitely - as Joe Morello would say "you have to earn it" Earn it first by mastering Freestroke - learn rebound - get the mechanics - then you're ready for Moeller...

Re: The Full Stroke
Hey peety - Cool that you're shedding the Freestroke - good question about grip - it's really important to have your grip together first.
It's great you're going for a relaxed a grip - no need...

Re: Hands better on pillow than pad - WHAT???
I don't recommend playing on a soft surface - when you mention the transition from pillows to pad, I know what you're talking about. I tried the pillow thing when I was on tour, because it was...

Re: Moeller - which grip?
Learn ALL grips with Moeller...
Definitely start with German to get the feel for the whip motion. Because of the way the wrist moves, German is the easiest - especially with more exaggerated...

Re: Keplinger-ish
Gregg is the best! I'd say to go with a Keplinger - his snares have a long history that no other boutique drums have... Mine is my go-to - I went for the typical stainless steel - whatever you go...

Technique and tuning...
Go through Stick Control with your feet. You can do this with your feet on the floor, or with a double pedal. Start really slowly, heel down and let the beater come off...

I have a Trick that came with my newest snare (about 7 months old). I've had it long enough to see how well it functions, but we'll see about long-term durability...
It's the single-throw, which...
