I'd just play it as a game because like you said it's kind of fun (at least Guitar Hero is never played Rock Band) but I REALLY wouldn't substitute it for actual practicing.

it's pretty much "trading" four or eight bar solos. So you play the a groove keeping time while someone else maybe a saxophone, guitarist, or bassist does a little fou bar solo. Then at the end of...

I like the idea of listening to something new or even really listening to something you already like and taking ideas from that.
