Re: Giving False Praise

I agree with Joe. This person may have posted the sound clip to find out if he's doing what he is trying to do, and may have actually wanted criticism, or to be steered in the right direction.

Re: Putting a Band Together

That is waaaaaay cool Mike!! Congrats man!

Hey, I played in bands years ago, but gave up the drums for about 25 years. Since taking them up again I am more passionate about drumming than I ever...

Re: Standard versus Fusion

I have two kits in the standard rock sizes, which I am very accustomed to, and recently purchased a Yamaha Tour Custom kit with smaller rack toms but a 16" floor tom. One thing I've always insisted...

Re: Drummer's career ended by someone's stupidity...

Old thread, but I received an update from Roisin's father late last week, and wanted to share that information with all of you.

From Chris Roisin's email:

The good news is that, despite one...

Re: Mapex M Birch vs Mapex Pro M

Hey Nineball,

First, it seems that everyone is stating a preference for one kit over the other, and not considering sound qualities. The Pro-M is maple, and the M Birch is exactly that - birch. ...

Re: New Kit Dilemma...

I personally own two Mapex kits, and I love them to death! They have incredible punch, not to mention I think they have some of the most awesome finishes available. They are also a tremendous buy...

Re: SONOR Forum

The only one I'm aware of is on the Sonor website, but I don't think it sees much use. Just click on the Sound Talk link, and that's the forum.

Other than that, lots of drum forums have sub...

Re: Musashi or Black Panther

Depending on what sound you're trying to achieve, there are almost endless choice just between these two, but mostly on the Black Panther side. The Musashi is made of 100% oak. BPs come in maple,...

Re: PDP FS Series

Check out Mapex. You can get a free tom when buying a new 2007 kit. And for $1000 you can get a six-piece kit and have at least a couple hundred left to start on cymbals. I bought a 6-piece M...

Re: Birch Drum Kits.

I compared an awful lot of kits before buying a Mapex M Birch. I prefer the sound of the birch drums over maple, but that's just my preference. Since then I've purchased a second M Birch kit.

Re: Yamaha Absolute Birch or Mapex Saturn?

The biggest question does not actually boil down to which brand you want, since an accurate comparison would be the Yamaha birch kit versus the Mapex birch kit. You are comparing a birch kit to a...

Are you talking strictly the shell pack, or with hardware? If so, what hardware are you including?

Re: lifting weights

I've been a weightlifter as long as I've been a drummer, and it makes no difference whatsoever, unless of course you want to have a cymbal breaking contest? LOL.

But seriously, what everyone else...

Re: Mapex Apologia

I'm not all that familiar with Taye's hardware, but you might note that the Mapex hardware has memory locks. So if you tear down your kit and then set it up for a gig, you can get your toms and...

Re: Which drum set?

Given those choices, definitely Gretsch. If you compared them side by side, even lifting them for weight, close inspection of the shells and rims, etc., the Gretsch is higher quality IMHO.

And I...

Re: Yamaha vs. Mapex vs. Sonor vs. Taye

My two cents....

I own two Mapex kits and for my money it doesn't get any better. One has been used extensively for gigging, and the hardware is quite durable. In my area you can get a Saturn...

Re: Drum Shops?

With the advent of the superstores, that's what you'll find most places. We did have a drum shop in Milwaukee called Faust Drum Center.....not sure if it's still around though. It was on the near...

Re: Karen Carpenter

She was certainly an accomplished musician! She had a very strong knack for the drums, and a voice to die for. I still think she had one of the finest singing voices I've ever heard. And when...

Re: Any suggestions for a tight, poppy sounding snare?

Black Panthers can range up to about $600....BUT, for what you're looking for there is a Cherry Maple 12x7 that goes for around $129 at Interstate. I've seen them on eBay as low as $110 new in box. ...

Re: Any suggestions for a tight, poppy sounding snare?

I would also suggest you check out the Black Panther series by Mapex. These snares are popping up all over the place, and reviews by people who own them are outstanding.

Re: Buying a kit

M Birch is perhaps the best bang for the buck you will see out there IMO. I don't think you'll be able to get cymbals with it for that budget, but you should at least be able to get the hardware...

I play a Mapex M Birch kit, and it's everything I wanted and more. The sound is great, the finish is incredible, and the hardware is certainly more than adequate. I was in the same price range as...
